Mumbai: Kapil Sharma’s romantic comedy sequel Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 is finding it difficult to pick up pace at the box office as it continues its run amid stiff competition from big ticket releases. The movie could not expand a lot during the weekend as there were some big crowd drawers such as Dhurandhar and Avatar: Fire and Ash that took over the movie theatres in the country.
According to a report by Sacnilk, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 earned an estimated Rs 35 lakh on its second Saturday, which marked Day 9 of its theatrical run. Although this was a slight improvement to the previous collection of approximately Rs 22 lakh on Friday, the film has failed to hit the Rs 1 crore mark on any single day since the opening weekend.
The film had a reasonably decent start in its first week, collecting an estimated Rs 10.85 crore. However, the momentum did not sustain for long. After the opening weekend, collections saw a sharp drop on the first Monday, when the film earned approximately Rs 90 lakh. The negative trend persisted into the week as the number of footfalls has been low and the movie has not been able to make a good grip at the box office.
The lowest point came on the second Friday, when the film managed to collect only about Rs 22 lakh. The total net collection of the film is currently estimated at Rs 11.42 crore as the earnings of Saturday got added to the earnings of the film. The film has also collected approximately Rs 13.53 crore in gross terms.
On the international front, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 has collected an estimated Rs 85 lakh. This brings its worldwide total to approximately Rs 14.38 crore. These figures have gradually placed the film second highest earning movie of Kapil Sharma so far even though it is still miles behind the original Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, which remains his largest box office hit to date.
A major reason behind the film’s slow performance is the intense competition it faces at the ticket windows. The Bollywood spy thriller Dhurandhar has been a huge blockbuster and has already garnered a net of more than 515 crore in India, and the overall gross of the film is earning it close to Rs 800 crore. At the international level, Avatar: Fire and Ash is still on a winning streak and will soon become a member of the Rs 1,000 crore club in the global arena. In the presence of these box office giants, smaller movies such as Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 have not been able to pull in audiences.
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 is a sequel to Kapil Sharma’s 2015 hit romantic comedy and continues the franchise’s signature blend of humour, confusion, and relationship drama. Kapil Sharma is the protagonist in the film which is based on the light hearted storyline with misunderstanding and comic twists. Supported by its production team, the film seeks to replicate the appeal of the original with a new story without letting go of the situational comedy and family friendly entertainment. The sequel is struggling to make a splash at the box office in an extremely competitive theatrical season despite its recognizable nature and its comic structure.
