Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda, known for his long and successful career, has stepped in to issue a public apology following controversial remarks made by his wife, Sunita Ahuja, during a recent podcast appearance. The issue revolves around comments Sunita made about the family’s long-time priest, Pandit Mukesh Shukla.

Appearing on a podcast, Sunita Ahuja spoke candidly about her husband Govinda’s reliance on priests and religious rituals. During the conversation, which touched upon the topic of fraudulent priests, Sunita allegedly pointed towards their family priest, Shukla. She reportedly questioned the authenticity of their practices, stating that such individuals “charge lakhs of rupees (reportedly ₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh) just for performing rituals” and that their prayers would not benefit Govinda. Sunita reportedly stressed that personal prayer is what truly matters, asserting that she does not “believe in all this.”
Govinda’s Video Statement Condemns Wife’s Comments
In a swift reaction to the viral comments, Govinda released a video statement to distance himself from his wife’s remarks and defend the family priest.
In his address, Govinda reiterated his immense respect for Mukesh Shukla, whose family has served as their priests for generations, and strongly condemned his wife’s words.
My wife made disparaging remarks against Pandit Mukesh Shukla on the podcast, and I condemn them. My deepest apologies. Pandit Mukesh ji and his family have been with me in tough times, and I respect him a lot,” the actor stated in his video.

Govinda’s clear and direct statement highlights his strong commitment to his faith and his long-standing, supportive relationship with the Shukla family.
