Mumbai: The Golmaal franchise is gearing up for a grand return, and this time, the madness promises to be bigger than ever. One of Hindi cinema’s most successful comedy franchises, Golmaal has enjoyed massive popularity over the years, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the fifth installment. Ajay Devgn and director Rohit Shetty had already announced Golmaal 5 in lockdown but the movie was postponed because of the heavy schedule of Shetty.
The director has since been busy with projects like Indian Police Force, Singham Again and IPS Maria, which pushed Golmaal 5 to the back burner. Today, the film is finally all set to go on floors with an exciting new casting update contributing to the buzz.
Akshay Kumar Joins Golmaal 5 as Main Antagonist
According to a report by Variety India, Rohit Shetty has pulled off a major casting coup by bringing Akshay Kumar on board for Golmaal 5. The actor is said to take the role of the primary villain in the movie, who will be in direct conflict with Ajay Devgn and his gang. It is a new twist on the franchise, whose core strength lies in its villains with quirky traits and an anarchic sense of humor.
Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar will also have the sixth collaboration in Golmaal 5. The two actors have already collaborated on movies such as Suhaag, Khakee, Insan, Sooryavanshi and Singham Again. Their on screen pairing has always drawn attention, and seeing them face off in a full fledged comedy setup is expected to be a major highlight.
Interestingly, Golmaal 5 will see Akshay Kumar in back to back negative roles. Apart from this film, he is also playing a villain opposite Saif Ali Khan in Priyadarshan’s upcoming film Haiwaan. But, according to the sources, the tone and the character lines of the two antagonistic roles are entirely opposite, providing the actor with two different shades of villains.
Ensemble Cast and Shooting Details
Apart from Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, Golmaal 5 will feature a strong ensemble cast that includes Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu. The cast also features comedy veterans Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari and Ashwini Kalsekar, further putting a lot of weight on the cast.
There is also buzz about Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor Khan possibly returning to the franchise. Although the two actors have played roles in previous Golmaal movies, their participation in Golmaal 5 has not been confirmed yet.
The film is expected to go on floors by the end of February 2026, with the shoot scheduled to take place at Film City in Mumbai. Golmaal 5 is being planned as a grand theatrical release slated for next year.
Before jumping into Golmaal 5, Rohit Shetty is expected to wrap up IPS Maria, which stars John Abraham in the lead. This film will mark the first time that Shetty has made a comedy film after almost a decade and so Golmaal 5 is an even more critical project in his career.
Given the franchise’s immense popularity and the addition of Akshay Kumar in a key role, expectations are sky high. Providing Golmaal 5 meets the expectations, it can certainly be the fire to light the box office and leave audiences with another laugh riot to talk about.
