Mumbai: Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar is no longer just a successful film. It has turned into a full blown box office phenomenon. The spy thriller has delivered a historic second Friday and an even greater second Saturday that has rewritten the records of the long history of Hindi movie. Full houses, late shows, and the viral buzz are all Dhurandhar is now on its way to the largest Indian blockbuster league.
Biggest Second Saturday Ever for a Hindi Film
Dhurandhar has officially set a new benchmark by recording the highest second Saturday collection in the history of Hindi cinema. The movie made an enormous Rs 53 crore on its 2 nd Saturday, a big leap compared to the first Saturday of Rs 31 crore. This tremendous expansion has propelled the movie ahead of all Hindi releases before it in terms of performance on second weekend.
The movie has already raked in over Rs 300 crore at the Indian box office in only ten days, which goes to show its high repeat value and good resonance. Even the second Saturday figures alone put Dhurandhar on the very first position on the list of best Saturdays ever in Hindi cinema.
Midnight Shows Turn Dhurandhar Into a Weekend Event
What truly sets Dhurandhar apart is the audience response inside theatres. Due to unprecedented demand, cinemas in Mumbai and Pune introduced midnight and post midnight shows during the second weekend. Pune was the first to follow the trend, with a 12.20 am show, then Mumbai at 12.45 am.
Footfalls continued to increase and theatres added several late night shows at 12.50 am, 1.25 am, 2.10 am, 2.30 am, 3.00 am, 3.30 am, 3.35 am, 4.05 am and even 4.10 am. Although the immense duration of the film, which was almost three and a half hours, the audience was not hesitant to spend the whole night in the cinema theatres, rendering Dhurandhar a fully fledged overnight movie.
Strong Second Week Momentum Despite Overseas Limitation
By the end of its ninth day, Dhurandhar had earned approximately Rs 292.75 crore net in India. On day ten, it comfortably crossed the Rs 300 crore milestone. This performance is even more impressive considering the film was not released in any Gulf country.
Even without Gulf markets, Dhurandhar was able to get about Rs 65 crore in overseas markets in seven days. The film is well placed to reach an even greater milestone in the upcoming weeks with the bulk of its revenues earned by domestic collections.
