Mumbai: The Hera Pheri franchise is not just a film series but an emotion for Bollywood fans. So when Hera Pheri 3 was announced, excitement was sky high. But rather than news about shooting or casting, the movie continued to make headlines in controversies. Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has now been able to come out and speak about the problem and assure fans that the third instalment is indeed on cards.
Paresh Rawal clears the air on Akshay Kumar fallout
In a recent conversation on The Lavari Show, Paresh Rawal spoke openly about the much talked about rift between him and Akshay Kumar. He brushed through the controversy with humour referring to reports that Akshay had sued him, claiming damages of Rs 25 crore. He claimed that the issue was exaggerated and likened it to such a menial item as the branded incense stick.
Paresh clarified that he personally has no dispute with Akshay Kumar. In his view, the postponement of Hera Pheri 3 has ensued because of technical problems between Akshay and the film directors. He further added that upon the sorting of these issues he is all prepared to sign the project.
“Hera Pheri without Baburao will be a disaster”

Paresh Rawal also spoke about the importance of his iconic character Baburao Ganpatrao Apte. He confessed that this could be immodest to say, but he is very sure that Hera Pheri will not be able to work without Baburao. He made it clear that without this character making the film would be a failure. He reassured fans once again by saying that as soon as the issues between Akshay Kumar and the producers are resolved, he will immediately sign the papers and the film will move ahead.
What went wrong with Hera Pheri 3 earlier
Back in 2022, the makers officially announced Hera Pheri 3, bringing back the original trio. Soon after, reports surfaced that Paresh Rawal had exited the project suddenly. This resulted in Akshay Kumar, one of the producers also suing Paresh on the grounds of gross unprofessionalism. The matter eventually settled, as Akshay abandoned the lawsuit. Paresh then turned back to the movie and affirmed them that any misunderstandings between them were resolved.
Why Hera Pheri remains a cult franchise

The Hera Pheri franchise began in 2000 with Priyadarshan’s comedy classic Hera Pheri. The film starred Akshay Kumar as Raju, Suniel Shetty as Shyam, and Paresh Rawal as the unforgettable Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, a struggling landlord. The plot was based on three desperate men who find themselves in a humorous situation after receiving a wrong number about a kidnapping ransom. The movie has become a cult favourite due to its crispy writing, comic timing and dialogues that are iconic.
Its sequel, Phir Hera Pheri, released in 2006 and followed the trio after they become rich but end up losing their money due to greed and poor decisions. While different in tone, the second film was also a big box office success and further cemented the characters’ popularity. The quirks of Baburao, the street smart attitude of Raju and the honesty of Shyam became legendary. That is why Hera Pheri 3 has huge expectations and fans are ready to watch the original cast in the big screen once again.
