New Delhi: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has emerged victorious in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2025, winning three of the four key posts. The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) managed to secure the vice president’s position, keeping its presence intact in the student body.
Aryan Maan of ABVP secured the president’s post with 28,841 votes, defeating NSUI’s Joslyn Chaudhary who polled 12,645 votes, while the SFI-AISA candidate bagged 5,385 votes. Interestingly, an independent NSUI rebel also garnered 5,522 votes, reflecting internal rifts within the Congress-backed student organization.
The vice president’s race saw NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla clinch victory with 29,339 votes, surpassing ABVP’s Govind Tanwar who managed 20,547 votes, while the SFI-AISA nominee trailed with 4,163 votes.
ABVP Dominates Other Key Positions:
- Secretary: Kunal Chaudhary (ABVP) – 23,779 votes; NSUI’s candidate – 16,177; SFI-AISA – 9,535.
- Joint Secretary: Deepika Jha (ABVP) – 21,825 votes; NSUI – 17,380; SFI-AISA – 8,425.
Profile of New President:
Aryan Maan, a Hansraj College graduate from Bahadurgarh, Haryana, now pursuing his MA in Library Science, has been actively involved in ABVP’s student movements. His campaign revolved around promises of subsidised metro passes, free campus Wi-Fi, accessibility audits, improved sports facilities, and financial assistance for research scholars.
Court-Imposed Restrictions:
Even as celebrations began, the Delhi High Court ordered a ban on victory processions by winning candidates. The court directed the Delhi Police, university authorities, and district administration to strictly enforce the order to prevent any untoward incidents.
Voting and Participation:
The elections saw participation from over 2.75 lakh eligible students across 52 polling centres with 195 booths and 711 EVMs. Voter turnout was recorded at 39.45%. A total of 21 candidates contested for the four top positions — with nine vying for president and 12 others competing for secretary, joint secretary, and vice president posts.
