New Delhi, Sept 13 (HS): Delhi Chief Minister and local MLA Rekha Gupta on Saturday dedicated a state-of-the-art hotline maintenance van worth ₹1.5 crore to her Shalimar Bagh constituency. The advanced vehicle will allow repair of high-voltage power lines without disrupting electricity supply. Officials said the facility will gradually be extended across the national capital.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister noted that new streetlights are being installed in Shalimar Bagh, while 44,000 additional lights will be set up across Delhi to strengthen illumination and public safety. She further announced a new road project worth ₹5,000 crore near Munak Canal, along with the construction of a new Chhath Ghat at the site. Financial aid was also distributed to families affected by the recent Munak Canal tragedy. Gupta assured that henceforth the Delhi government will take complete responsibility for the canal’s upkeep, including barricading and cleanliness, to prevent similar incidents.

Reiterating the government’s focus on local infrastructure, Gupta said that approvals have been granted for a new higher secondary school and a community hall in Haiderpur, while a new underground reservoir (UGR) is being built in CA Block to permanently resolve water supply issues. Construction work has also started on a yoga shelter, and new recreational facilities including a children’s play area and play station will soon be developed. Highlighting anti-encroachment efforts, she said that nearly 12,000 square yards of illegally occupied land had been cleared near Shishmahal Park and restored to the public.

Senior leaders including MP Praveen Khandelwal and Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood were present on the occasion.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister inspected the construction of a new road connecting Guru Gobind Singh College to Ring Road. She charged that negligence by the previous government had allowed illegal encroachment on the stretch, delaying work. The current government has cleared the encroachment and started construction of the ₹12-crore project, which will directly link the TV Tower to Ring Road, providing smoother connectivity for thousands of residents.
