Canacona, Goa | November 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled a 77-foot statue of Lord Ram at the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in Canacona, Goa. The inauguration took place during the Math’s 550th anniversary celebrations, which drew spiritual leaders, devotees and state officials.
According to the organisers, the 77-foot structure is now regarded as the tallest statue of Lord Ram in the world, and has been installed as part of the Math’s expanded cultural complex.
Crafted by Renowned Sculptor Ram V. Sutar
Officials associated with the project confirmed that the statue has been created by Padma Bhushan awardee Ram V. Sutar, one of India’s most respected sculptors and designer of several monumental works.
The statue is made of bronze and has been placed inside the Math premises as the centrepiece of its long-term redevelopment plan

Partagali Math Marks 550 Years
The event was organised to coincide with the 550th Foundation Year of the Partagali Math, an important spiritual institution of the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin tradition.
As part of the anniversary programme:
- A Ramayana-themed cultural attraction was inaugurated inside the campus.
- A commemorative postal stamp marking the Math’s 550-year journey was released.
Prime Minister Modi Addresses the Gathering
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi appreciated the Math’s contribution to spiritual learning and community service.
He said that the installation of the statue would strengthen the cultural and religious significance of the region.
Large Attendance and State Participation
Senior leaders from Goa including the Chief Minister and Governor were present at the event, along with seers and devotees from different parts of the country.
The Math prepared for the occasion with enhanced arrangements for visitors and special anniversary programmes.
Tourism Boost Expected
Organisers stated that the 77-foot statue and new cultural facilities inside the Math could increase spiritual and cultural tourism in the southern part of Goa.
The site is expected to attract both devotees and general visitors interested in heritage and religious architecture.
