New Delhi: It was an incredibly joyful month of October 2025 to the car companies in India. The number of cars sold in the country was the highest in this month. The new GST 2.0 tax regime and the large festive season, which sees most families purchasing new vehicles, were the key factors that contributed to this record.
In India, the sales of cars passed 4.7 lakh units in October, which is significantly better than it was last year. The new GST changes made a good number of models more affordable according to the excitement of people to purchase new cars. The new policy of GST 2.0 by the government caused reduction of taxes on various car models and this allowed people to save money. In addition to this, it is also during the month of festivals such as Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali and in India, it is highly believed that when one purchases a new car during festivals they will get good fortune. Due to this fact, the buyers were filling in showrooms all over the country.
Who Leads Indian Cars Sale this October 2025?
Maruti Suzuki was the top selling brand in India among all the car companies. In October, Maruti reached its highest monthly sales with a sale of above 2.2 lakh vehicles. Its small and compact cars such as Baleno, Swift, WagonR and Dzire, in particular, were a huge hit. These automobiles are characterized to be cheap, simple to operate and consuming less fuel thus most of the families opted to buy them. The company also revealed that the outstanding inventory of its showrooms is very minimal since many individuals have already ordered their vehicles. In other cities, clients have to wait several weeks to receive their new vehicles by the delivery.

Tata Motors was also enjoying a great month. Indeed, Tata has been the second largest automobile company in India by passing Hyundai and Mahindra in October. This is a very large increase in passenger cars sold by Tata which was about 75,000 cars in a month. This was an increase due to the fact that Tata cars had been made cheaper following the GST tax reductions. The new models produced by Tata which are safe and have a stylish appearance also attracted many customers. Such cars as the Nexon, Punch, and Harrier have become common on the roads.
The sales of Mahindra also increased tremendously. In October, the company sold over 71,000 cars which was over 30 percent compared with the previous year. The SUVs of Mahindra such as Scorpio, XUV700 and Bolero were still popular in the cities and rural regions. Toyota also experienced a tremendous improvement in sales. The models such as the Innova HyCross and Fortuner were well received by buyers with the company selling more than 40,000 cars this October.
Nevertheless, not all companies performed well in the month. Hyundai that tends to perform very well experienced a slight decline in sales in comparison to the previous year. Though it introduced the new models of certain models, its overall sales decreased slightly. But Hyundai said that it hopes that things will pick up in the near future due to the rush of the festive season and some of the new launches in the near future.
The fact that people purchase cars does not only benefit the companies but also provides thousands of workers in factories, show rooms and service stations with jobs. It also benefits a number of the small businesses which are also car parts manufacturers or offer transport services.
Analysts think that this robust growth will be sustained over the next few months particularly when the GST benefits remain in place and as more new models are introduced. Nevertheless, due to the demand, there is a risk that some clients will be forced to wait longer in order to receive their vehicles. Car companies have now endeavored to manufacture more vehicles to match an order.
The Indian car market recorded the highest number of cars sold in October 2025. Maruti dominated the race, Tata Motors continued to second position, Mahindra and Toyota performed well too.
