New Delhi, November 28: British fast-casual chain German Doner Kebab (GDK) will launch its first restaurant in India in early 2026, marking a significant push into one of the world’s fastest-growing food markets.
GDK’s leadership has set an ambitious target: achieve around £1 billion (≈ US $1.3 billion) in global sales over the next five years.
Why India and What’s the Plan
The company sees India’s rising middle-class, growing appetite for protein-rich meals, and increasing demand for global dining experiences as fertile ground for expansion. GDK’s CEO described India as “a key growth market” for the brand’s kebab-based fast-casual concept.
To enter the Indian market, GDK has partnered with GBC India, granting the company full responsibility for rolling out and managing the brand’s restaurants nationwide.
As part of the long-term expansion roadmap, GBC India aims to establish as many as 450 outlets over the next fifteen years, with the first restaurant scheduled to open in 2026.
Menu & Local Adaptation
Understanding local dietary preferences, GDK plans to avoid beef-based offerings in India. Instead, the chain will rely on lamb and other meats adapting its global menu to local cultural sensibilities.
Originally known for its signature toasted-waffle bread, handmade sauces, and dishes like the “Boss Box” and “OG Kebab,” GDK aims to retain its global identity while customizing flavours and offerings to suit Indian tastes.
Global Growth Ambitions
At present, GDK operates over 170 restaurants worldwide across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and North America.
With the Indian launch, the company aims for aggressive global expansion, accelerating growth in international markets while making India a key strategic region for its long-term operations.
