Mumbai: Mohanlal’s highly awaited Drishyam 3 is slowly moving towards its final shooting schedule, and the curiosity around its release plan is only getting bigger. With fans across India waiting for updates, director Jeethu Joseph has now given much needed clarity on whether the Malayalam version will hit screens along with its Hindi and Telugu adaptations.
Jeethu Joseph Clears The Air On Release Timing
The confusion started when Panorama Studios bought the theatrical, digital and airborne rights of Drishyam 3. Many assumed that this could lead to a simultaneous release of all the versions across languages.
However, when a fan reached out to Jeethu Joseph on Instagram, the filmmaker responded directly. He confirmed that Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 will release first, and only after two months will the Hindi and Telugu versions be allowed to release. This simple reply has put an end to weeks of rumours.
Why The Speculation Began
Panorama Studios recently announced that they had purchased the worldwide theatrical rights, in India and overseas, from Aashirvad Cinemas. This major deal led fans to wonder if the producers were planning a pan Indian release strategy involving Ajay Devgn’s Hindi adaptation and Venkatesh’s Telugu version. But the truth is, those films have not even started production, while the Malayalam original is almost ready for its final phase of filming.
Malayalam Version Likely To Release First
With the shoot nearly done, all signs point to Mohanlal’s version arriving first in theatres. The other adaptations will follow later once they go on floors and lock their own timelines. The makers of the Hindi and Telugu versions are yet to share any official details.
Drishyam: A Franchise Loved Across The World
The Drishyam series, both in Malayalam and Hindi, stands as one of India’s most loved thriller franchises. The journey began with the Malayalam film, starring Mohanlal, which released on 19 December 2013 and became a massive blockbuster known for its clever storytelling and emotional depth. Its success gave way to Drishyam 2 that initially appeared on Amazon Prime video on 19 February 2021, and then made a theatrical re-release on 3 February 2022, because of high demand.
The Hindi adaptations, led by Ajay Devgn, followed a similar triumph. Drishyam (Hindi) hit theatres on 31 July 2015 and impressed audiences with its faithful yet impactful remake. Drishyam 2 (Hindi) arrived later on 18 November 2022, once again earning strong acclaim and box office success. Having provided both languages with captivating stories and memorable twists, the franchise of Drishyam has become a rare cinematic phenomenon that connects deeply with viewers across India.
The Drishyam series is considered one of the biggest success stories in Indian cinema. The story of a common man in every effort to save his family has resonated with audiences around the world.
