Mumbai: Bollywood socialite and influencer Orhan Awatramani, popularly known as Orry, appeared before the Mumbai Police on Wednesday to record his statement in the Rs 252 crore mephedrone drug seizure case. It was around 1.30 pm that he arrived at the Ghadkopar unit of the Anti Narcotics Cell after requesting more time to join the investigation.
Why Orry Was Summoned?
Orry’s name surfaced during the interrogation of Mohammed Salim Mohammed Suhail Shaikh, one of the key accused in the case. Police said Shaikh claimed he used to organise rave parties in India and abroad. These parties were reportedly attended by certain film and fashion personalities, a politician, and even a relative of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim. One of the names Shaikh mentioned was Orry. According to officers, Shaikh was known as Lavish because of his extravagant lifestyle.
Shaikh was deported from Dubai last month and arrested soon after. His arrest is linked to the discovery of mephedrone worth Rs 252 crore from a secret drug factory in Sangli district of Maharashtra. According to police, this was a close aide to Salim Dola who was in charge of manufacturing and distribution of mephedrone in India.
Huge Crowd Outside ANC Office
When Orry arrived for questioning, the scene outside the ANC office turned chaotic. A huge crowd of fans, onlookers, and paparazzi gathered to get a glimpse of him. Several cameras and microphones were pointed in his direction as he walked through the crowd. Orry kept his head down and did not speak to the media. He was seen wearing glasses and a brown patterned shirt while security escorted him through the packed space.
Recently, actor Shraddha Kapoor’s brother Siddhanth Kapoor also appeared before the Anti Narcotics Cell in connection with the same case. Earlier this month, Orry was summoned after Shaikh’s claims linked him to the high profile parties. His representative had informed police that he was out of the city and would join the probe after November 25.
During the probe, Shaikh also reportedly named:
- Nora Fatehi
- Shraddha Kapoor
- Siddhanth Kapoor
- Rapper Loka
- Abbas Mustan
- NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique
The Rs 252 crore drug case focuses on a large scale mephedrone manufacturing setup. With Shaikh’s arrest, the investigation has widened and the police have started calling in all individuals whose names appeared during questioning. Orry’s statement is part of this ongoing probe as investigators try to understand the full network behind the alleged drug trafficking syndicate.
