Mumbai: Tamil film Amaran was selected as the opening feature of the Indian Panorama section at the 56th International Film Festival of India in Goa. The makers and cast travelled to Goa for the special screening and the film was showcased in front of an international festival audience.
Team Amaran at the festival
Representing the film at IFFI were producers Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran, director Rajkumar Periasamy, and the lead actors Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi. The team attended the screening ceremony on November 21 and met festival viewers and the press during the event.
Golden Peacock nod and festival recognition
Amaran was also nominated for the Golden Peacock Award in the International Competition category, placing it among a select group of films in contention at IFFI this year. The nomination and the Indian Panorama opening slot provide the film with a favorable festival profile outside of its box office run.
Sivakarthikeyan speaks after the screening
After the international screening, Sivakarthikeyan shared an emotional reaction. Back in Chennai he told the media that being recognised on an international stage felt like a milestone and that seeing the film at IFFI brought back the excitement of the release day. He described the moment as a huge honour for him and the entire team.
Why this matters for the film and audiences
Amaran was released in theatres last year and it turned out to be one of the most discussed events in terms of story and performances. The IFFI screening places the movie in a new perspective – as a widely-known theatrical release something being honored on a national festival stage. For viewers this means renewed attention, fresh critical interest, and the chance for the film to reach new audiences.
