Mumbai: Mystery is a feeling Malayalam cinema knows how to deliver, and EKO steps right into that space with a quiet confidence. The moment the trailer begins, you sense that this is not a film that will hand you answers easily. Instead, it invites you into a foggy, unfamiliar world where every character seems to hide a secret and every frame feels like a clue. The haunting hills, the shifting timeline, and the shadow of man that everybody is hunting, EKO looks ready to pull viewers into a thriller that asks you to watch closely, think deeply, and trust no one. Eko released in the theatres in 21 November, 2025.
A mysterious world pulls you in the moment the trailer begins
There are trailers that tell you almost nothing yet completely hook you. EKO falls into the second category. The moment it opens, the viewer is pulled into a misty, unsettling world where every face seems to be hiding something. The noise of the hills, the silence in between the dialogues and the weird tales regarding some mythical dog owner create the air which feels new to the Malayalam film industry. Rather than presenting the plot of the story, the trailer encourages the viewer to follow after him thus, making curiosity their greatest weapon. The hilly terrain the shifting timeframes and the cryptic visuals set the tone for the mystery. The mystery stretches across decades and many continents.
In the trailer, viewers hear about a rare canine breed from Malaysia and a man who supplied these dogs to the Navy. But the more you listen, the more questions arise. What do these dogs have to do with the people chasing someone? Why are so many characters searching for one man? There is no clear explanation, and that is exactly what makes the trailer gripping. It offers hints, whispers, and glimpses but no real answers.
The team behind EKO
EKO is written and shot by Bahul Ramesh, who earlier worked on two titles from this universe, including Kishkindha Kaandam and the recent Kerala Crime Files: Season Two. Dinjith Ayyathan, the director of Kishkindha Kaandam, is back to direct EKO, a reunion long time fans have been waiting to see. MRK Jhayaram is the producer of the film under Aaradyaa Studios.
Plot: A search that leads deeper into the shadows
The film follows a woman and a caretaker who live in the misty hills of Kaattukunnu. The elderly woman and the caretaker confront secrets from their past. Several strangers climb the mountains. The strangers look for the person: Kuriyachan. Kuriyachan is a known dog breeder and a fugitive. Kuriyachan lives in tales and different stories.
As the hunt progresses, Mlaathi Chedathi and Peeyoos gradually discover the truth. However, quietly the film leaves one thing clear within this world; no character can be fully trusted. EKO is not just about finding a missing man. It is about walking through uncertainty, layer by layer, just like moving through a dense forest where every turn hides something unexpected.

Cast of EKO
The film brings together a strong and intriguing ensemble cast, each adding a unique texture to the mysterious world of EKO. Sandeep Pradeep leads the pack, and Vineeth and Narain add their trademark richness to the story. Binu Pappu intensifies the drama that is happening and Biana Momin takes centre stage giving another twist of curiosity to the story. Throughout, they form a cast that is comfortably at home in a movie made of secrets, shifting motives, and unpredictable twists and turns. Each actor seems to bring a unique mystery to the screen, adding to the film’s intriguing tone.
Malayalam has been becoming more open when it comes to narratives, and EKO seems like the next leap into that thrilling realm. What stands out is the confidence to keep things mysterious. Instead of dropping heavy dialogue or over-explaining its world, the film trusts the viewer to notice the details and follow the trail. Something is refreshing about a thriller that invites you to participate rather than simply watch. And, based on the trailer, EKO may be one of those experiences where the journey is more important than the destination.
