Mumbai: Filmmaker Karan Johar has finally addressed the long-running rumours around a sequel to his iconic 2001 film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and the answer is clear. There is no part two in the works.

The popular family drama with a star-studded cast that included Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan had a cult following even up to the present day.

Karan Johar puts rumours to rest

Speaking on the talk show The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra Season 3, Karan Johar made it clear that fans should not expect a sequel or spin-off. He said he was glad to have the platform to confirm that there is no Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2.

The filmmaker explained that the film’s emotional value and nostalgia are too precious to revisit. According to him, generations have grown up watching the film, connecting with its emotions, relationships and memorable moments. He shared that he feels grateful for creating a story that still lives on in people’s hearts.

“I would never mess with that love”

Karan Johar also admitted that going back to such a celebrated film could risk taking away from its legacy. He stated that he would never make a sequel because he does not want to disturb the nostalgia and love that audiences have for it.

For many fans, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is more than just a film. It is a story of a wealthy family divided by differences and reunited through love. Its themes of relationships, values and reconciliation struck a chord with audiences across generations.

The film also included an unforgettable performance of Farida Jalal, Sushma Seth, Alok Nath, Johnny Lever, Himani Shivpuri, Simone Singh and a special appearance by Rani Mukerji in addition to its lead cast.
