Mumbai: The plans to turn Kingdom into a full fledged film franchise have come to an abrupt end. The makers of the 2025 Vijay Deverakonda starrer have officially decided to shelve its sequel, Kingdom 2, putting an end to months of speculation around the project. The fans have been shocked by the update, particularly because the original movie was meant to be the initial piece of a broader film universe.

The confirmation comes from producer Naga Vamsi, who has reportedly stated that the second installment will not move forward. Lets Cinema broke the news, and since then, it has caused discussions among the audience who were anticipating Vijay to reprise the same role.

Kingdom 2 Officially Dropped

Kingdom, which was tentatively titled VD12 during its early stages, was helmed by filmmaker Gowtam Tinnanuri. It was an action thriller which featured Vijay Deverakonda as the main actor and Satyadev Kancharana and Bhagyashri Borse as supporting characters. Early on in the film it was planned as a high scale project, with part one establishing the basis of an extended storyline as the beginnings of a franchise.

Vijay Deverakonda played the role of an undercover police officer, a character that was meant to be explored further in the sequel. The fact that Kingdom 2 has been shelved has hence been a surprise, particularly since the story had potential of more in-depth conflicts and wider film narrative. With the official confirmation now out, the uncertainty surrounding the sequel has finally been put to rest.

A Closer Look at Kingdom

The story of Kingdom revolves around a deeply troubled police officer who is assigned a dangerous undercover mission. As the case unfolds, the boundary between work and personal life starts to fade. The case gets him into scenarios that mirror his personal unresolved trauma, drawing him nearer to traumatic memories and deeply suppressed feelings.

What starts as a high risk operation soon turns into an internal struggle, where survival depends as much on solving the case as it does on confronting the past he has been trying to escape. It was a mix of action and psychological insight, and the character motivated narrative became one of the strengths of the film.

Vijay Deverakonda’s Next Move

While Kingdom 2 is no longer part of Vijay Deverakonda’s future lineup, the actor already has his next project locked in. Next will be Rowdy Janardhana, an action-packed movie due to be released in 2026. The project has had a tremendous buzz, and fans are hopeful that it will be a huge step of power by the actor.
