Mumbai: Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty has sent fans into a frenzy with his recent comments hinting at a possible Shah Rukh Khan and Rajinikanth collaboration in the much awaited Tamil film Jailer 2. The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster by Rajinikanth is expected to be released in June 2026 and the comments by Chakraborty have given the project an extra touch of excitement.
Mithun in one of his latest interviews with Siti Cinema was very open about his part in Jailer 2 and mentioned names that immediately drew the attention of each and every person. Although the makers have yet to make an official announcement, his words have become the biggest talking point among fans in different industries.
Mithun Chakraborty hints at a massive face-off
In the interview, Mithun revealed that Jailer 2 would be his next film and explained that the movie is one in which his character receives stiff competition. He unveiled that there were a few large stars, which would be observed opposing him in the tale. Among the names he cited are Rajinikanth who he said acted against his character, Shah Rukh Khan, Ramya Krishnan, and Shiva Rajkumar among others.
This single line of words was sufficient to create the great amount of speculations that Shah Rukh Khan might be involved in the movie. It would be the first theatrical partnership between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajinikanth, a match-up the fans have long been eager to see.
Why this possible collaboration is a big deal
Although Shah Rukh Khan and Rajinikanth have shared the same universe before in Ra.One in 2011, they never appeared together on screen in a proper scene. The film featured the character of Chitti, played by Rajinikanth in Enthiran, although the two legends did not perform opposite to one another.
That is why Mithun’s comment has created such a strong buzz. This face-off or a collaboration of the Bollywood and Tamil movie personalities on screen would be the first of its kinds in Indian cinema.
Star-studded cast and familiar faces return
Jailer 2 is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, the same team behind the first film. Rajinikanth will be joined by Ramya Krishnan who was a significant character in the first Jailer.
Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, earlier reports and actor statements have hinted at the presence of several other celebrated names. These are Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Vidya Balan, with a powerful supporting cast. There is every indication of a multi-layered story with compelling characters and overlapping plots.
