Mumbai: Farhan Akhtar’s much awaited directorial return Don 3 has reportedly hit yet another major hurdle. When news broke that the movie was on its way back on course, Ranveer Singh had started preparing and the shooting was going to take place at the end of January 2026, newer reports seem to suggest that the actor has bowed out of the project.

According to multiple reports, Ranveer Singh has decided to step away from Don 3 in the aftermath of the blockbuster success of Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. Although the actor or the makers have not officially confirmed this yet, the news has surprised fans and has become a hot topic on the Internet.

Why Ranveer Singh Reportedly Quit Don 3

As per a report by Pinkvilla, Ranveer Singh’s decision is said to be driven by a clear shift in his career priorities. According to a source, the actor has expressed his interest to join forces with filmmakers such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Atlee in the coming years. Meanwhile, he is also allegedly unwilling to appear in consecutive gangster roles.

With Dhurandhar already establishing Ranveer strongly in the gangster space and nearing the Rs 600 crore nett mark at the box office, the actor is said to be consciously avoiding repetition. The source also mentioned that this was among the main reasons why he was reported to have left Don 3.

Focus Shifts to Pralay and New Genres

Following his reported decision to step away from Don 3, Ranveer Singh has allegedly asked producer Jai Mehta to prepone the shoot of his upcoming film Pralay. Supported by Applause Entertainment, the movie is a zombie oriented film that narrates an emotional human tale of the lengths a man goes to save his family under extreme circumstances.

The actor is also said to be taking a hands on approach in order to make the film fast paced. Sources say Ranveer is personally committed in fixing dates and schedules in a manner that Pralay goes on floors earlier than planned. This action signifies that he wanted to venture into new genres and diversify his work following the success of Dhurandhar.

What Happens to Don 3 Now

Despite Ranveer Singh’s reported exit, the makers of Don 3 are said to be determined to take the film forward. Reports state that the team had already started to prepare to start filming by January 2026. However, following the latest developments, the film has now been pushed.

A source cited by Pinkvilla stated that Ranveer was initially to start prep of Don 3 right after the release of Dhurandhar but the situation at hand has made it postponed. The producers are said to be searching a new lead actor to fill in the iconic role.

Earlier, Kiara Advani, who was signed as the female lead, exited the project after her pregnancy and childbirth. It is reported that Kriti Sanon has been finalised to replace her, but there is no official announcement yet.

Casting Updates and the Road Ahead

Reports also claim that actors Vikrant Massey and Vijay Deverakonda were approached to play the antagonist in Don 3. However, both are said to have declined the role, citing a lack of depth in the character.

The movie is supposed to be shot on a large scale, where they plan to shoot in several parts of Europe. The new delays are all the more important because Don 3 is supposed to introduce a new chapter in the iconic Don franchise.
