Mumbai: Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s upcoming romantic comedy Tu Meri Main Tera has unveiled a brand new song Saat Samundar Paar 2.0, which is an updated version of the 90s mega-hit Saath Samundar Paar as of Vishwatma. Although the song is supposed to combine a nostalgic touch with a contemporary love narrative, it has turned out to get a very polarizing reaction on the internet.
A Nostalgic Tune With a Modern Touch
Produced by Dharma Productions and Namah Pictures, the song has been recreated by music directors Vishal Sheykhar for director Sameer Vidwans’ film. The new version of Saat Samundar Paar, sung by Karan Nawani, slows the tempo of the original and makes it more romantic. In contrast to the energetic soundtrack in the 1991 original with Sunny Deol and Divya Bharti, the one is melodic and moody, making it appropriate to watch at the warm Christmas evenings.
The Saat Samundar Paar 2.0 music video shows Kartik Aaryan dancing in a pre wedding celebration setup as he tries to impress Ananya Panday. Adding a fresh element, Kartik is also seen collaborating with the globally popular dance crew Quick Style, introducing contemporary choreography that aims to appeal to younger audiences. It was a song originally written by Viju Shah and with the lyrics written by Anand Bakshi and its legacy in Bollywood pop culture is still very strong.

Netizens React Strongly Online
Despite the festive intent, the song has not gone down well with a section of viewers. Soon after its release, Saat Samundar Paar 2.0 began facing heavy trolling on social media. One of the clips that Viral Bhayani posted on Instagram received hundreds of negative replies. The remake was not well received by many users who complained that it was unnecessarily done and not as energetic as the original.
Comments ranged from sarcastic to outright angry, with users accusing Bollywood of ruining a classic. Some netizens believed that the slowed down version dilutioned the magic of the legendary song, others even claimed that it was worse than the original and it did not replicate the charm that scooped the song into the memory-books of the 90s.
Film Faces a Tough Road Ahead
The mixed reaction to the song comes at a crucial time for the film. Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is set to release worldwide on December 25, 2025, coinciding with Christmas. The film is however being introduced into the theatres with stiff competition with box office hits, Dhurandhar and Avatar Fire and Ash. The romcom has been pretty low on the ground buzz and even the trailer was met with a low response.
Directed by Sameer Vidwans, this marks his second collaboration with Kartik Aaryan after Satyaprem Ki Katha. The film also stars Neena Gupta, Jackie Shroff, and Tiku Talsania in supporting roles. The film, which is a joint venture between Karan Johar, Adar Poonawala, Apoorva Mehta, Shareen Mantri Kedia, Kishor Arora and Bhumika Tewari will be a grand spectacle and emotionally touching love saga.
Whether Saat Samundar Paar 2.0 will eventually grow on audiences or remain a controversial remake remains to be seen. As there are only days to go before release, now everyone is speculating whether the festive romance between Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday will end up winning hearts at the box office despite the online outrage.
