Kolkata: Indian cricket legend and former captain Sourav Ganguly is once again set to take the helm of Bengal cricket. Nearly three years after his tenure as BCCI President, Ganguly filed his nomination for the post of President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Sunday. With no other candidate filing a nomination against him, his election as the unopposed president is now just a formality.
According to a report by India’s premier news agency, PTI (Press Trust of India), Ganguly’s entire panel has filed nominations unopposed for the various posts. The panel includes his elder brother and outgoing president, Snehasish Ganguly, as the candidate for the post of Secretary. Meanwhile, Amalendu Biswas has been nominated for Vice-President and Rupam Ganguly for the post of Treasurer.
The deadline for filing nominations concluded on Sunday evening. Now, following the scrutiny of the nomination papers, the names of Sourav Ganguly and his panel will be officially announced at the CAB’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
This will be the second time Sourav Ganguly will hold the post of CAB President. He previously served in this role from 2015 to 2019 before he became the BCCI President.
Sourav Ganguly’s return to the top of Bengal cricket administration is being seen as a major boost for the sport in the state. His vast experience is expected to help in the development of grassroots cricket, the improvement of infrastructure, and the nurturing of new talent in Bengal.
