Mumbai, November 26: In a major announcement ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Indian captain and 2024 World Cup–winning leader Rohit Sharma has been officially appointed as the Tournament Ambassador.

Shah shared the news on social media, stating:

It’s my honour to announce that Rohit Sharma is the tournament ambassador for the upcoming T20 World Cup in India & Sri Lanka. There can be no better representative for the event than the winning captain of the 2024 T20 World Cup, and a player who has been in all nine editions so far.”

The decision has been widely applauded across the cricketing community, as Rohit remains one of the most influential figures in modern T20 cricket.

A Fitting Choice for a Global Event

Rohit Sharma, one of the most successful captains in white-ball cricket, led India to their historic 2024 T20 World Cup triumph—ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought. His long-standing consistency, leadership record, and impact on world cricket made him a natural choice for the ambassadorial role.

Rohit is also the only cricketer to feature in all nine editions of the ICC T20 World Cup since its inception in 2007, cementing his legacy as a true format legend.

Massive Boost for the Tournament

The 2026 T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, is expected to be one of the biggest global cricketing events in recent years. Organisers believe that Rohit’s presence as ambassador will significantly elevate fan engagement, tournament branding, and global outreach.

BCCI officials say his involvement will help inspire young players across nations and energise cricket audiences worldwide.

Fans Celebrate the Announcement

Moments after Jay Shah’s post, social media platforms were flooded with celebratory messages, with fans calling Rohit:

  • “The face of T20 cricket”
  • “The rightful ambassador for a global WT20 at home”
  • “The man who revived India’s ICC glory”

Rohit himself is expected to issue an official statement soon.
