Delhi, 22 September (H.S.): The Delhi High Court, presided over by Justice Mini Puskarana, has issued a notice to Delhi University in response to a petition seeking the cancellation of the election for Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president. The matter has been scheduled for the next hearing on December 16.

The court has directed the university’s Chief Election Officer to ensure that all Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), their paper trails, and related documents used during the election and counting process are securely stored in a lock-and-sealed facility. During the hearing, university counsel Mohinder Rupal submitted that while there was an instance of unauthorized thumb impression, there was no tampering with the election process.

The petition has been filed by Rounak Khatri, former DUSU president and leader of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party. The petition alleges that EVMs were manipulated during the DUSU elections. The bench observed that while serious allegations had been raised in the plea, the winning candidate for the president’s post had not been impleaded as a party.

In this year’s DUSU elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) secured three posts, while the NSUI could only manage one seat.
