Delhi/Kolkata, September 16 (HS): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday called upon India’s armed forces to remain vigilant and prepared for long-term conflicts amid a turbulent global order, regional instability, and emerging security threats. Speaking at the Combined Commanders’ Conference 2025 in Kolkata, Singh emphasized the need for continuous assessment of global changes and their impact on the nation’s security system.
Addressing the officers, Rajnath Singh stressed that modern warfare is no longer confined to traditional battlegrounds but includes unconventional threats such as information, ideological, ecological, and biological warfare. “Wars today are sudden and unpredictable, lasting two months, a year, or even five years,” he remarked, underlining the need for robust surge capacity and readiness.
Five-Year Action Plan for Defence Modernisation
The Defence Minister called for a proactive approach to build the Sudarshan Chakra, a strategic vision promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He announced the formation of a committee tasked with preparing a “realistic action plan” and urged the development of a medium-term plan spanning five years, alongside a long-term strategy covering the next decade.
Mantra of JAI: Jointness, Aatmanirbharta, and Innovation
Reiterating PM Modi’s mantra of “JAI (Jointness, Aatmanirbharta, and Innovation)”, Singh stressed the critical role of modernisation, operational readiness, technological superiority, and credible deterrence. He called for greater collaboration between the armed forces, private industry, and academia to build future-ready defence technologies.
Highlighting initiatives such as Tri-Service Logistics Nodes and the Tri-Service Logistic Management Application, he underlined the importance of synergy and integration across military branches and government agencies as part of the “whole of nation” approach.
Commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat
Rajnath Singh reiterated that self-reliance in defence is not merely a slogan but a strategic necessity essential for India’s autonomy. He stated that defence indigenisation is accelerating economic growth, creating employment, and enhancing infrastructure like shipyards, aerospace clusters, and defence corridors, thus delivering the multiplier effects of Aatmanirbharta.
