Chennai: November 8 turned out to be quite the day for Vijay fans. The first song from his upcoming film Jana Nayagan, called “Thalapathy Kacheri,” dropped online and within an hour, it had already crossed a million views. Social media went absolutely crazy.
What makes this song special? Well, it’s not just another mass number. This is Vijay’s 69th and final film before he moves into politics full-time. Director H Vinoth, who’s made some pretty intense action films like Theeran and the Ajith trilogy, is calling the shots here.

About Jana Nayagan
The film’s got Vijay playing a tough cop – “The torch bearer of democracy” as they’re calling it. KVN Productions is backing this one with a massive ₹300 crore budget. That’s not pocket change, and the buzz around it shows why. They’ve already sealed deals worth crores, including a huge ₹110 crore OTT deal with Amazon Prime.
Pooja Hegde’s back opposite Vijay (they worked together in Beast before). But here’s the really interesting casting – Bobby Deol is making his Tamil cinema debut as the villain. Plus you’ve got solid actors like Prakash Raj, Gautham Menon, Priyamani, and Revathi rounding out the cast.
The Music and the Madness
Anirudh’s composed the music, and honestly, when has a Vijay-Anirudh combo ever disappointed? This is their fifth film together after Kaththi, Master, Beast, and Leo. The song’s got Vijay himself singing along with Anirudh and rapper Arivu. Sekhar Master handled the choreography.
What’s got fans emotional is how the video shows glimpses from Vijay’s classic films – Ghilli, Mersal, Pokkiri, Thuppakki. It’s like a trip down memory lane. One look at Twitter and you’ll see #ThalapathyKacheri trending everywhere.
In Madurai, fans literally took to the streets – dancing, bursting crackers, putting up huge posters. The kind of celebration you’d expect for a festival. Because let’s face it, for Vijay fans, this IS a festival. Their Thalapathy’s last dance on screen before he becomes a full-time politician with his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party.
What’s Next?
Jana Nayagan releases on January 9, 2026, during Pongal. KVN Productions has tied up with Phars Film for the worldwide release. Trade analysts are already predicting it’ll dominate the Pongal box office. Given Vijay’s track record and the emotional connect this film has, they’re probably right.
The lyric video hit 2.5 million views on day one. That’s the kind of pull Vijay still has. After 30 years in cinema, the man’s going out with a bang.
