Mumbai: Superstar Rajinikanth is all set to hit the big screen with Jailer 2, the much-awaited sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The Tamil action-comedy is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, with high octane action, some drama, and ideal mix of humor. The film will hit the theatres on June 12, 2026, and the fans can mark it on their calendars.
Vidya Balan To Debut Her Tamil Cinema.
The Bollywood star Vidya Balan is set to enter the Tamil film industry with a pivotal role in the film. Although she briefly appeared in Nerkonda Paarvai (2019) by Ajith Kumar, this is her first full-fledged role in Tamil. It is reported that she will portray the eldest daughter of Mithun Chakraborty whose role is said to be strong, emotional, and at the centre of conflict in the film. Vidya’s presence adds a fresh dimension to the story.
About Jailer 2
According to reports, Jailer 2 will be a direct sequel of the original movie as the Tiger Muthuvel Pandian continues his journey. The sequel will see him fighting a new underworld syndicate, which smuggles idols, and also explore the personal and emotional consequences of the death of his son. The movie will escalate the tension and will provide the viewers with even more action, suspense, and family drama.

In addition to Rajinikanth and Vidya Balan, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa are also in central roles in the film. S. J. Suryah is introduced as a new character into the cast and the movie has special appearances of Shiva Rajkumar, Nandamuri Balakrishna and Mithun Chakraborty. It is worth noting that Rajinikanth and Mithun are back together after decades working together in Bhrashtachar (1989) and Bhagya Devta (1997).
The team is already shooting in Chennai, and will be relocating to Goa by late October to shoot the last two months. The post-production should start early next year. Recently, fans had a glimpse of the sets through a Diwali social media post by Sun Pictures indicating that Rajinikanth and Vidya Balan were in action with the director Nelson Dilipkumar.
Rajinikanth’s Work Front
Rajinikanth was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie with Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan, plus a cameo by Aamir Khan. Post Jailer 2, the superstar will work with Sundar C on a fast track project before joining forces with Kamal Haasan on another big project.
