Mumbai: Dhurandhar 2 is steadily shaping up to be one of the most ambitious action thrillers in recent times, and a fresh development has added new excitement around the film. It is reported that Vicky Kaushal will once again play a popular character known as Major Vihaan Shergill in the next sequel and contribute to the further development of the cinematic universe that was conceived by a filmmaker Aditya Dhar.
The sequel is currently in advanced stages of production and post-production and is scheduled to hit theatres on March 19, 2026. The movie will hit theatres in simultaneous release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam in a complete Pan-India release.
Vicky Kaushal’s Extended Cameo Explained

According to a report by Mid-Day, Vicky Kaushal’s role in Dhurandhar 2 will be an extended cameo rather than a full-length appearance. He will return as Major Vihaan Shergill, the character that made him a household name in Uri: The Surgical Strike released in 2019. While Uri and Dhurandhar exist in different timelines, but director Aditya Dhar has allegedly discovered a clever means to relate the two stories.
A source quoted in the report revealed that Dhar has been extremely secretive about the additional star power in the sequel. The director has carefully woven a storyline linked to Uri into Dhurandhar 2, despite the difference in timelines. The look of Vicky would have a few action-oriented sequences which are actually shot in the past year when the first Dhurandhar movie was not released.
How Major Vihaan Shergill’s story intersects with Ranveer Singh’s character remains under wraps. The cameo, according to insiders, might serve as a basis to spin-off into future or be part of the extended Dhurandhar world.
Dhurandhar 2 Cast And Universe Expansion
Dhurandhar 2 builds on the success of the first film, which starred Ranveer Singh and released in December 2025 to a strong box office response. The sequel is being positioned as a much larger cinematic event, both in scale and storytelling.
Along with Ranveer Singh, the film features a powerful ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Akshaye Khanna. Recent reports have clarified that Akshaye Khanna will not reprise his role as Rehman Dakait in the present timeline of the sequel. Rather, he will feature in some of the flashback scenes but not a complete appearance, as rumoured before.
The story of Dhurandhar 2 is set largely in Pakistan and will dive deeper into the backstory of Ranveer Singh’s character Hamza. The film traces Hamza’s rise in Lyari and his involvement in a covert anti-terror mission. Inspired by real-life geopolitical events, the narrative touches upon incidents such as the 1999 IC-814 hijacking, the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, and the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Box Office Clash And Release Strategy
The makers are aiming big with Dhurandhar 2, banking on the scale, star cast, and franchise potential. The movie will be competing at the box office with Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups by Yash which will also be released on March 19, 2026.
With Vicky Kaushal’s reported return as Major Vihaan Shergill, the sequel promises to deliver not just high-octane action but also the thrill of seeing familiar characters come together across films. Although it is yet to be officially confirmed, this news has already caused a massive buzz among fans and made expectations soar about what is already becoming a defining action event in 2026.
