Mumbai: The makers of The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond have firmly dismissed reports claiming that the film’s teaser was taken down after court intervention. Making a firm official clarification, production banner Sunshine Pictures termed the news that was being propagated as totally false, unfounded and misleading and called upon the people to shun disseminating unverified news as the case is under judicial consideration.
The clarification has come at a time when the film is facing legal questions as the Kerala High Court is demanding to watch the film before its release in the theatres. This had given rise to speculation over the potential limitations on the film and the promotional materials, which brought confusion to social media and the news outlet.
Makers issue firm clarification
In a detailed statement, Sunshine Pictures clarified that no court has passed any order directing the removal of the teaser or trailer. The production house stressed that the matter is currently sub judice and no judgment has been delivered so far.
They also added that the teaser and the trailer are not removed on any platform and that they remain accessible on all the authorized outlets. The makers were also urging the media and individuals not to report unauthenticated and speculative news, as this will only cause undue confusion to the masses.
This response follows earlier reports quoting news agency PTI, which claimed that during court proceedings, the producers had expressed willingness to withdraw the teaser. However, the production team has now categorically denied any such move.
Legal challenge and ongoing controversy
It has been petitioned to the Kerala High Court challenging the certification of the film by the Central Board of Film Certification on the ground that the board has not duly complied with the provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, when the film was certified. The petitioner, too, has objected to the teaser and the trailer by arguing that they identify only alleged cases of terrorism, forced conversion and demographic conspiracy with Kerala, though the stories they tell feature women of various states.
The film has faced intense backlash ever since its teaser release, with critics arguing that its content could potentially disturb communal harmony. A public interest litigation has also been filed against the movie, further intensifying the debate.
Earlier, the producer, Vipul Amrutlal Shah, had replied to the allegation by saying that the film was not an attack on Kerala, which he termed as the Gods Country, but rather an attempt to bring to light and eradicate what he termed as social evils. He also justified characters in the first movie, claiming that extensive information was already exposed publicly.
Adding to the controversy, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had strongly criticised the movie, further fuelling public discourse around its theme and messaging.
The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond Release date remains unchanged
Regardless of the legal challenges and discussions, the makers still assert that The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond would still have its theatrical release on February 27, 2026. Now that the controversy surrounding the content of the film has only intensified, every one now waits to see what the next hearing in the court will bring, and what the film will do to the theaters once it is released to theaters.
