After nearly a decade of monsters, mysteries and memories, Stranger Things has officially come to an end. The Netflix sci fi series closed its final gate on New Year’s Day with a massive two hour long finale, where the Hawkins gang finally defeated Vecna. With fans all over the world still having a raw emotion over the say goodbye to Eleven, Hopper and the others, the Duffer Brothers have already made it clear that this is not the end of the story.
Although there will be no Stranger Things Season 6, the creators Matt and Ross Duffer are expanding the franchise with several spinoff projects, which will tell new stories, new characters, and unanswered questions about the original series.

Will There Be a Stranger Things Season 6?
The short answer is no. The Duffer Brothers have made it clear that Season 5 was always meant to be the final chapter of the main show. Following the five seasons of tracking the Hawkins children, the creators believed the story had come to its natural end with the defeat of Vecna and the closing of the Upside Down storyline.
Although fans hoped the finale might open the door for another season, the Duffers have confirmed that the flagship series is officially over. However, they have also reassured viewers that the Stranger Things universe is far from finished.
Stranger Things Spinoffs Confirmed by Netflix
Netflix currently has two spinoffs in development, with the first one already officially announced and dated. The most talked about project is Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an animated series set in the same universe. This episode occurs between the second and third season and it is set in the winter of 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana. Based on the official synopsis, Eleven and her friends will encounter new monsters as they address another paranormal mystery that endangers their town.
Although the familiar characters will return, they will be voiced by new actors. The Duffer Brothers will continue being immensely creatively engaged but have passed showrunner responsibilities to Eric Robles, an animator. The animated spinoff is currently scheduled to release in 2026, though an exact release date has not yet been announced.
A Secret Live Action Stranger Things Spinoff Is Coming
Alongside the animated series, the Duffers are also working on a second, unnamed live action spinoff. This project has been kept tightly under wraps since it was first teased in 2022, shortly after Season 4 aired. Matt Duffer unveiled that Netflix were completely unaware of the idea, as the creators had intentionally withheld it. Interestingly, actor Finn Wolfhard was the only person who correctly guessed what the spinoff would be about.

This new series will not be a continuation of the Hawkins story. Instead, it will be set in a completely new town with an entirely new cast. It will not have an Upside Down and no returning characters used in the original show. Nevertheless, the spinoff will maintain the signature Stranger Things tone, i.e., kids and adventure and sci fi fantasy.
How the Spinoff Connects to Stranger Things
Although the live action spin off is going to bring a new mythology, it will remain linked to unresolved aspects in the finale. Matt Duffer confirmed that one major loose end will finally be explained, specifically the mysterious rock linked to Henry Creel’s powers and its connection to Dimension X and the Mind Flayer.

While the show will not revolve around mining or rocks, it will answer lingering questions related to Henry’s past and the scientist involved in his story. The Duffers have emphasized that the new mythology will be different, and the answers will make the fans better understand some issues in the original series.
The brothers are set to resume work on the spinoff in January 2026. Both Matt and Ross have expressed that they are thrilled to work on a clean slate, new characters and a whole new world. In their case, creative process is the most fun, compared to the release of the finished product.
The End of One Era and the Start of Another
Stranger Things may have ended after five seasons, but its world is only just beginning to expand. As Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 comes in 2026 and a mysterious live action spinoff is on the anthem, there is still much to look forward to.
The Hawkins story is done, but the magic of the Stranger Things universe is far from over.
