Mumbai: Released in 2009, Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots remains one of Hindi cinema’s most loved films even now. The film features Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, R Madhavan has persistently resonated with people of all ages. Now, fresh reports about a possible sequel tentatively titled 4 Idiots have once again sparked excitement among fans.
With the buzz gaining momentum, Sharman Joshi has finally reacted to the speculation, sharing his thoughts on the possibility of returning to the iconic franchise.
Sharman Joshi on the Sequel Speculation
Sharman Joshi, in an interview with Hindustan Times, stated that although he would be happy to have the sequel, he has not received any official confirmation yet. The actor indicated that such rumours have appeared in the past, but they have ended up to be otherwise.
He remembered that when they had last heard about a follow-up, it had turned out to be an advertising campaign. This time too, he said, only time will tell if the news is real, adding that he genuinely hopes it works out.
The Sharman also made it clear that were a sequel to be made, it would be only the three creative minds of the franchise i.e. Rajkumar Hirani, writer Abhijat Joshi and Aamir Khan who would be in a position to take that decision.
Fond Memories of 3 Idiots
Looking back at his journey with 3 Idiots, Sharman Joshi shared an interesting anecdote from the time he was cast. He recalled that he was busy training at the gym when Rajkumar Hirani gave him the final call. Hirani jokingly told him that he would not see the gym for the next three years, hinting at the kind of role he was about to play.
Sharman told him it still brings a smile to his face when he thinks about 3 Idiots. The film seems to him a fairytale since the moment he heard the story to even now. He further stated that Hirani had spotted him in the movie Style and had considered casting him in the future. And when 3 Idiots was on its shoot, the director reminded him of that first impression.
What Reports Say About 4 Idiots
According to a report by Pinkvilla, Rajkumar Hirani has reportedly locked the script of the 3 Idiots sequel. It will tentatively hit the theatres in 2026 and is reported to have an original cast, Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi.
The report also suggests that Hirani revisited the idea of a sequel only recently, after his Dadasaheb Phalke biopic was put on hold. Although officially it has not been announced yet, the update has created optimism to see Rancho, Pia, Farhan and Raju on the screen again.
