Mumbai: As soon as the news broke that Shahid Kapoor was going to share the screen space with Triptii Dimri in O Romeo, the fans were thrilled. The movie trailer itself contributed to the hype, providing a preview of the hot chemistry between Shahid and Triptii. But there was another pairing that viewers were curious about Shahid Kapoor and Disha Patani.
Now, with the release of the song Aashiqon Ki Colony, audiences finally got to see Shahid and Disha together. Although they have gained attention with their dance moves and their chemistry, the song has generated a mixed response on the internet.
Shahid and Disha Bring the Dance Floor Alive
Aashiqon Ki Colony is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj with lyrics by Gulzar and vocals by Madhubanti Bagchi and Javed Ali. The song is an attempt to revive the allure of the 90s Bollywood dance songs. It begins with Disha Patani drawing out a cassette at the side of her lehenga skirt as Shahid Kapoor waits in the middle of the dance floor.
Both Shahid and Disha are trained dancers, and that clearly shows. Their energy, coordination and screen presence have impressed many viewers. Several fans praised Shahid’s dance skills, especially his moonwalk. Such remarks as “Shahid Kapoor is on fire” and “Uff, fire chemistry of Shahid and Disha” were all over social media immediately after the song was released. Others also enjoyed watching Shahid in an out and out dance with Disha and called it a full blast item song.
Song Faces Heavy Criticism From Netizens
Despite the strong performances, the song itself did not impress a large section of the audience. On Reddit and other social media platforms, many users expressed disappointment. Some called the track boring, while others felt it lacked effort.

One user wrote that they could not even watch the entire song and kept forwarding it. One said that the role of Disha appeared so minor that eliminating the song would only do the film a favor. Reactions towards the music were also harsh, with some netizens stating that they never supposed a song of such poor writing would be done by Gulzar.
The set design, costumes and choreography also came under fire. Several comments mentioned the boring set, horrendous outfits and monotonous steps. One of the viewers believed that the song was well choreographed and well performed, but the sound was just not working. The hook step was another aspect that came under critique and was termed as outdated and not necessary to a dancer like Shahid Kapoor.

While the trailer of O Romeo created strong curiosity, the reaction to Aashiqon Ki Colony suggests that expectations are now divided. Viewers agree that Shahid Kapoor shines as a dancer and that his chemistry with Disha Patani works well. People do not think the song suits the talent on board though, particularly in the case of Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar.
