Mumbai: The Indian entertainment industry lost one of the most popular and versatile actor Satish Shah, who was most famous for his iconic figure as the Indravadan Sarabhai in the cult sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. Satish Shah passed away due to kidney failure on 25 October, 2025. The news was confirmed by filmmaker, Ashoke Pandit, on social media, claiming the veteran actor was taken to Hinduja hospital and there he took his last breath.
Satish Shah’s career lasted for more than four decades featuring more than 250 movies and a massive number of television programs. Known as the master of comic timings and all round versatility, Shah was a household name in television and Bollywood.

Although Shah had been leaving a mark on the television, his role as Indravadan Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai solidified his legacy. He played a role and created one of the most memorable personalities in the entire history of Indian sitcoms by portraying the witty, mischievous, and sarcastic patriarch of the Sarabhai family.

His screen chemistry with Ratna Pathak Shah who portrayed his wife Maya Sarabhai and his co-stars; Sumeet Raghavan, Rupali Ganguly and Rajesh Kumar became magic on the screen.The show’s comedy, sharp dialogues, and family dynamics made it a cult film and the character of Shah is one of the most quoted and most loved characters in Indian television.
Satish Shah, A Timeless Performer
Satish Shah made equally strong impression on the big screen as well. His first hit was the classic dark comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) by Kundan Shah, in which he starred in the role of a crooked Municipal Commissioner called D’Mello, a role still regarded as one of the best satiric characters in Bollywood.
He has also appeared in many successful movies including Hum Saath Saath Hain, Main Hoon Na, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Judwaa, Fanaa and Om Shanti Om all through the years. Just as a loving father, comic relief, or an eccentric villain, Shah added genuine, sincere, and light humor to each part.
Although famous as a comedian, Satish Shah had an extraordinary diversity in his career, including satire, family show business and emotional and serious productions. His death has not only deprived the entertainment industry of a great performer but also of a part of the golden era of such a performer. Satish Shah’s work continues to inspire generations of actors and millions of fans.
