Mumbai: The much loved romantic drama Laila Majnu is finally getting a sequel, and the announcement has already set social media buzzing. On 14 February 2026, Ektaa Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali, the producers, officially confirmed their reunion in a new film named Heer Ranjha. The project will be the sequel to the 2018 romantic drama Laila Majnu that featured Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri in the lead role.
Directed once again by Sajid Ali, who also helmed the original, the film aims to continue the emotional legacy of the earlier story. Although the announcement made the title and creative team official, the makers decided to keep the information about the casting under a wrap, which caused a spurt of speculations among the fans and industry observers.
Rohit Saraf Casting Reports Spark Excitement
Soon after the official announcement, a report by Variety India claimed that Rohit Saraf had been locked in to play the role of Ranjha. The report states that the actor had been finalized as the lead male in the film, but the production team had not officially confirmed it.
The news quickly caught attention online, with fans expressing excitement over the possibility of seeing Rohit in a soulful romantic role. The fact that his screen presence was relatable among the young viewers who had watched him made him an obvious choice to many of his fans.
Sources Deny Reports, Casting Still in Progress
However, the buzz took a new turn when Hindustan Times spoke to sources close to the project. The casting claim was reportedly refuted by the sources, which said that there is still no finalised actor and casting is underway. They also included that there will soon be an official announcement about the lead cast.
Interestingly, the makers have not issued any statement to either confirm or deny Rohit Saraf’s involvement, keeping the speculation alive.
On the work front, Rohit was last seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and is set to return in the fourth season of the popular series Mismatched. He also has the Amazon Prime Video original show Revolutionaries lined up, making him one of the most in-demand young actors today.
