Mumbai: Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is expanding the upcoming slate of his production banner True Story Films, with an ambitious zombie survival thriller titled Pralay emerging as one of the most talked about projects. Ranveer Singh will star as the protagonist in a film that is likely to venture into the territory that has never been ventured with such a large scale in Hindi mainstream cinema.

A post apocalyptic survival story

Jai Mehta will direct the film and the film is being produced in partnership with the banner Maa Kasam Films owned by Ranveer Singh. The story is set in a post apocalyptic world where there is a fatal outbreak that transforms a big portion of the population into zombies.

The story is about a band of surviving people who find it hard to survive amid the falling systems, bloody clashes and extreme lack of resources. Besides a lot of action and horror scenes, the movie will also revolve around human relationships and emotional attachments that will arise in extreme survival circumstances.

Hansal Mehta has referred to Pralay as a film that will attempt to challenge the limits of genre narration in India. As the filmmaker claims, it is aimed at providing the zombie format in the Indian context without losing the emotional essence of the narration. The information regarding the character of Ranveer Singh remains a secret, however, the actor has already created a hype among the fans.

Multiple projects in development

Apart from Pralay, Hansal Mehta is also preparing to direct another film titled Porbandar, an action drama set in the hometown of Mahatma Gandhi. The banner is simultaneously working on several other projects across genres and languages.

Dilkashi is one of them and will become the Hindi Burial of a filmmaker, Lijo Jose Pellissery, as well as the music written by A. R. Rahman. Other films are the slate of Kehar Singh directed by Ajitpal Singh and a horror film called Mehfooz.

The company also has plans of regional cinema. Development projects are Sardar Asardar, which is based on the life of Vallabhbhai Patel and Punjabi feature Hanere de Panchi directed by Shashank Walia.

True Story Films is also experimenting with other forms besides feature films. These are Family Business, which is co produced with Abundantia Entertainment, and Tongues of the Tree directed by Shonali Bose and starring Pratik Gandhi. Another product the studio is developing is Rasooi, an AI-driven food series.

Producer Sahil Saigal said the company aims to support projects that stand out creatively, while Hansal Mehta emphasised that bold storytelling will remain at the centre of the studio’s vision. With Pralay and several other titles in development, True Story Films appears set to explore a wide range of genres and narratives in the coming years.
