Mumbai: Advance bookings for Dhurandhar: The Revenge have begun with strong momentum, building excitement for one of the most awaited action films of the year. The sequel will start its paid previews on the evening of March 18 and ticket sales to the extended four day weekend will start on March 14. Trade insiders anticipate an enormous reaction following the high demand already recorded in the preview shows.

While the first film Dhurandhar was later converted into the IMAX format, the sequel will follow a slightly different route when it comes to premium screens.

Film to play in IMAX screens but without IMAX conversion

Exhibition sources state that the follow-up will continue to be shown in IMAX theatres in India, but the movie is not converted to the IMAX format. This implies that viewers will view a regular edition of the movie shown on IMAX screens.

According to industry insiders, the decision has no impact on the magnitude of the experience. The action spectacle is projected on a huge screen and is likely to provide a strong theatric experience even when using non IMAX.

Release shuffle opens IMAX opportunity

The film was earlier scheduled to clash with Toxic, the upcoming film starring Yash, on March 19. In fact, the February 2026 investor presentation of IMAX Corporation had listed Toxic as a possible IMAX release in India this year.

The date of release of Toxic has however changed to June 4. Having no other movie in the theatres that can reach the leading positions to eclipse all other movies, the exhibitors felt that it was right to screen Dhurandhar: The Revenge in IMAX properties even without the conversion of the format.

That window might be short lived though. The upcoming Hollywood film Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, is scheduled to release in India on March 26. Since it is filmed for IMAX, it is expected to take over many IMAX screens once it arrives. It remains to be seen whether both films will share the premium screens or if the Hollywood release will get the majority of shows.

Power packed ensemble cast

Dhurandhar: The Revenge features a strong ensemble led by Ranveer Singh along with Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in key roles.

The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande under Jio Studios along with Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar of B62 Studios. Aditya Dhar has also written and directed the film.

With strong advance bookings and growing curiosity among fans, the action sequel is gearing up for a powerful start at the box office.
