Mumbai: Critically acclaimed actor Randeep Hooda has reportedly exited the upcoming action thriller O’Romeo at the very last moment, surprising many within the industry. Hooda had and still has been cast initially in the Shahid Kapoor starrer as the lead antagonist, but had to back out some days before the film could even go up on the floor. The personal priorities were reportedly behind the decision and the separation occurred in friendly terms.
O’Romeo is a Hindi film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and is one of the most anticipated films to release in 2026. The movie has a powerful cast with Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Disha Patani playing some of the main roles alongside the experienced Nana Patekar. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 13, 2026.
Why Randeep Hooda Stepped Away From O’Romeo
As per an industry source quoted in a Mid-Day report, Randeep Hooda had already begun preliminary preparations for his role. However, as the shoot date approached, he reportedly faced pressing personal challenges. The source also displayed that, just before he was set to start shooting, he experienced the personal crisis, due to the problems with his wife health and other events in his personal life.
Given the circumstances, Hooda decided to prioritise his family and health related matters over the project. The report also added that, the director Vishal Bhardwaj and producer Sajid Nadiadwala were very supportive of his move and the departure was done amicably.
Avinash Tiwary Replaces Hooda as Antagonist
Due to the tight schedule of the production, the makers needed to move with speed to prevent delays. Avinash Tiwary came on board to replace Hooda. It is the first time that Tiwary is working with Vishal Bhardwaj. According to sources, the actor fit the requirements of the role and was available to step in at short notice, allowing the shoot to stay on track.
The teaser of O’Romeo, which has already been released, offers a glimpse into a dark and intense cinematic world filled with layered characters and emotional conflict. Now that Avinash Tiwary appears as the antagonist, the focus has now shifted to how Tiwary will develop the character leading to the opposite of Shahid Kapoor.
About O’Romeo and Its Big Expectations
O’Romeo is especially significant as it marks Shahid Kapoor’s fourth collaboration with Vishal Bhardwaj after acclaimed films like Kaminey and Haider. Known for his moody storytelling and complex characters, Bhardwaj appears to be returning to familiar territory while raising the emotional stakes even higher.
The film will be released by the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner right before the valentine day in 2026. After the theatrical release, O’Romeo will also air streaming on Amazon Prime video, which will guarantee a vast digital audience.
With its star-studded cast, haunting tone and growing buzz, O’Romeo continues to be one of the most talked about Bollywood films of 2026. Although the departure of Randeep Hooda was an unexpected development, the makers appear convinced, and the project is set to continue with a new momentum.
