Some media reports indicate that Priyanka Chopra may be approached with the role, with her global presence and strong screen image being major reasons behind this consideration. If finalised, this would mark her return to an Indian big budget franchise after a long gap, which has only added more excitement among fans.
Priyanka is already preparing to release SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi and her collaboration in another big film such as Kalki 2 would make 2026 a memorable year in her filmography.
Alia Bhatt, Sai Pallavi and Anushka Shetty Also in the Race
Along with Priyanka, sources claim that Alia Bhatt, Sai Pallavi, and Anushka Shetty are also being considered for the role. The makers are reportedly searching for an actress who can:

Official Statement on Deepika Padukone’s Exit
The makers had previously issued a direct and clear statement announcing that Deepika would not be a part of the sequel.
It read:
- “This is to officially announce that Deepika Padukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of Kalki 2898 AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like Kalki 2898 AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best for her future works.”
The announcement confirmed that the separation was final and mutual, though it did leave space for speculation about what went wrong behind the scenes.
Why Did Deepika Leave? Reports Offer Two Different Stories
After the announcement, several reports attempted to explain what may have led to the exit. A report by Bollywood Hungama claimed that Deepika had allegedly asked for:
- a 25 percent increase in her fee
- an 8 hour work shift
The report stated that negotiations took place but both sides could not reach an agreement.
Deepika Defends Her 8 Hour Shift Request
Addressing the chatter, Deepika spoke to CNBC TV18 and explained that her approach to work hours is not new for her.
She said,
“I have done this at many levels. This is not new to me. Even when it comes to pay, I have had to deal with whatever comes with it. I am someone who has always fought my battles silently and with dignity.”
Her comments suggested that she prefers to handle such matters privately and professionally, even when they become public discussions.

Deepika has shifted her focus to Siddharth Anand’s King, where she is reportedly playing a powerful and action driven role. She also mentioned in a recent Harper Bazaar interview that she is no longer attracted to big budget movies just because of scale or finances.
She said she now finds meaning in empowering new talent and supporting creative voices behind the camera.

With Deepika officially out, the casting buzz for Kalki 2 is getting louder each day. The sequel aims to raise the stakes even higher than the first film, and the makers are expected to announce the new female lead once the selection is finalised.
