Mumbai: Telugu superstar Prabhas recently returned to cinemas with the horror comedy The RajaSaab, directed by Maruthi. While expectations were high, the film failed to impress both critics and audiences. The RajaSaab was reportedly budgeted at 400 crore, but it could only make approximately 150 crore in the initial seven days. The poor reception has seen the film being listed to be ranked among the largest box office failure in Indian cinema.
Since the historic success of the Baahubali films, Prabhas has struggled to recreate the same magic at the box office. Several of his big budget releases after Baahubali have either underperformed or failed outright, leading to growing pressure and expectations around his upcoming projects.
Spirit Release Date Finally Announced
Amid this phase, all eyes are now on Spirit, Prabhas’s upcoming film with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The long-awaited project is being regarded as a possible breakthrough in the actor career. Although it was assumed that the movie would be out sometime in 2026, the makers have now officially given the release date of the movie in theatres.
Spirit will hit cinemas on March 5, 2027. The announcement was made by Sandeep Reddy Vanga himself on January 16 through his Instagram handle. The filmmaker tweeted a promotional picture explicitly stating the release date, and fans went wild at once.
The response online was massive. Fans flooded the comments section with excitement, calling Prabhas “Pan India No. 1” and expressing their eagerness to see him in a powerful new avatar. At the same time, many fans also showed impatience, with comments like “Can’t wait,” “2027 too far,” and “Itna late kyu” appearing repeatedly. There was a concern that the wait could be very long, but the general impression was extremely optimistic, and it indicated the massive expectations that were attached to the Prabhas and Sandeep Reddy Vanga team.
First Look and What We Know So Far
The buzz around Spirit began even earlier, when the film’s first look was unveiled at midnight on January 1, 2026, as part of a New Year reveal. The poster was soon viral on social media. It depicted Prabhas with a rough and fierce appearance, with long hair, bruises, and a fierce expression. Actress Triptii Dimri was seen lighting his cigarette in the image, adding to the raw and gritty tone that instantly caught public attention.
Spirit marks the first time Prabhas is working with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, a filmmaker known for his bold storytelling, emotional depth, and strong character-driven narratives. Triptii Dimri plays the female lead opposite Prabhas. Although the details of the story are being kept under wraps by the makers, the film is likely to have a blend of heavy action with conflict of a very emotional nature with much emphasis being placed in the inner struggle of the main character.
With The RajaSaab failing to deliver at the box office, Spirit has now become one of the most crucial films of Prabhas’s career. With its unique vision of Sandeep Reddy Vanga and the outstanding impression at the first sight, the movie has already placed the bar very high. It is now all looking forward to March 5, 2027 to know whether Spirit will finally celebrate a long-awaited comeback of Prabhas on the big screen.
