Chennai: Actress Nayanthara’s much-talked-about documentary series Beyond the Fairytale has run into legal trouble after the producers of the 2005 blockbuster Chandramukhi alleged that unauthorized footage from their film was used without permission.
According to a petition filed earlier this month, the producers have demanded ₹5 crore in compensation, claiming violation of copyright and misuse of their intellectual property. The case was listed before the court on September 10, 2025, with the next hearing scheduled for October 6, 2025.
However, in a fresh development, the makers of Beyond the Fairytale have indicated that they are keen to avoid prolonged litigation and are working on an out-of-court settlement. Rahul Dhawan, managing partner at Lex Chambers, stated that discussions are underway directly with the producers to resolve the dispute amicably.
Legal experts suggest that if a mutual agreement is reached, the case may not proceed to trial. For Nayanthara, who recently marked two decades in cinema, this dispute underscores the complex intersections of stardom, storytelling, and intellectual property in the digital age.
