Mumbai: Over the last decade, Kiara Advani has progressively developed a filmography replete with a variety of roles from tender romantic roles to more nuanced characters. From playing Sakshi Rawat in M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, to stepping in the shoes of Wing Commander Kavya Luthra in War 2, the actor has continued to evolve. Now, she is all set to surprise audiences once again with her upcoming film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, where she takes on one of her most intense roles yet.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film is Kiara’s return to the big screen, since she welcomed her baby girl, Saraayah Malhotra, in July 2025. As anticipation builds, the filmmaker has revealed that Kiara was always her first option to play the character of Nadia.

A role that needed both strength and sensitivity

Talking about the casting, Geetu Mohandas shared that Nadia is not a straightforward character. According to her, the role has fragility as well as ferocity and is emotionally demanding. She explained that the fact that Kiara has a screen presence brings out a very human quality in her, which made her the perfect fit from the get-go.

The director described the decision as instinctive rather than calculated. She said that sometimes casting comes from a strong feeling rather than logic, and Kiara fit into that vision effortlessly. What stood out to her even more was Kiara’s approach to acting, which she described as quiet, disciplined, and sincere.

Mohandas noted that Kiara does not simply follow instructions on set. Instead, she actively contributes to shaping the emotional depth of the character. The actress spends time understanding and living with her role mentally long before the camera starts rolling, which reflects in her performance. Her curiosity, the director added, turns the filmmaking process into a collaborative conversation rather than a one-sided direction.

A challenging comeback with a powerful ensemble

Taking on the role of Nadia pushed Kiara both physically and emotionally. The filmmaker revealed that the demands of the character were intense, but the actress embraced the challenge completely. For Mohandas, watching Kiara bring Nadia to life on screen was a magical experience, as the character felt real and alive in front of the camera.

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups is off to a roaring start as a cinematic event with a terrific line-up with Yash, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth to name a few. The movie is set to be released in cinemas on June 4, 2026. With a complex role, a visionary director, and a potent cast behind her, Kiara Advani’s comeback with Toxic promises to bring out a new side of the actor that could become a defining moment in her career.
