Mumbai: Acclaimed director Priyadarshan has finally spoken about Hera Pheri 3, the much-awaited installment of Bollywood’s most iconic comedy franchise. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, the veteran filmmaker said he is deeply aware of fans’ expectations and will only proceed if the script does justice to the legendary trio of Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty.
Priyadarshan stated: “I know how important Hera Pheri is to the audience. If I am to do Hera Pheri 3, it has to do justice to the original. I don’t want to do it just for the sake of cashing in on its popularity. It must respect the legacy of Akshay, Paresh and Suniel, and the love people have carried for over two decades.”
He also hinted that while discussions are on, nothing has been finalized until the writing lives up to the benchmark set by the first two films. The director emphasized that comedy is “the most difficult genre to recreate,” and fans’ nostalgia makes the task even more challenging.
The Hera Pheri series, first released in 2000, has become a pop-culture phenomenon in India, with its characters Raju, Shyam and Babu Bhaiya etched in audiences’ memories. The cult following has only grown over the years, fueling excitement for a potential third chapter.
