Ahmedabad: The 70th Filmfare Awards brought a memorable moment for actor Kartik Aaryan who was honored with the Best Actor in a Leading Role award for his outstanding performance in the Kabir Khan-directed film ‘Chandu Champion.’ He shared the award with industry veteran Abhishek Bachchan. When Kartik took the stage to receive his first ‘Black Lady’ trophy his speech won everyone’s hearts.
A career-best performance in ‘Chandu Champion’
‘Chandu Champion’ is a biopic based on the life of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar. Kartik Aaryan’s transformation and performance in the film were widely praised by critics. Breaking away from his romantic-comedy image Kartik put in tremendous physical and emotional effort to bring the role of an athlete to life on screen. Media reports and film critics hailed it as the best and most mature performance of Kartik’s career establishing him as a versatile actor.
Heartfelt Words for Abhishek Bachchan and Kabir Khan
Kartik began his award speech by congratulating his co-winner Abhishek Bachchan. He humbly said:
First of all a big congratulations to you Abhishek sir. Your words mean a lot to me. I have always followed your work. I agree with what you said today patience and perseverance. That’s the beauty of showbiz: slowly but surely, your time comes.”

Kartik became very emotional while thanking his director Kabir Khan. He said:
Kabir Sir, whatever I say about you is less. When I first heard the story of Murlikant Petkar ji, I felt it was not just the story of an athlete, but of a man who believed in himself when others had given up. Somewhere I could relate to his story. Kabir Sir you are one of the finest directors in Indian cinema, and I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with you.”
A Memorable Speech and Inspiring Message
Karthik described this award as a dream come true and said it has been the best journey of his career. He thanked his parents the film’s producers and the entire team.
At the end of his speech he offered a powerful message to dreamers around the world:
I have just one thing to say to all the dreamers out there. Whenever you feel like you can’t make it or that the journey is about to end remember that there’s a champion in all of you. A champion may fall but he never stops.”
