Mumbai: Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar closes on a gut punch that forces viewers to rethink everything that came before. What starts as a ruthless gangster movie in Lyari silently turns into a sophisticated spy story, and the ending turns Ranveer Singh into not a troubled gangster but an unfeeling professional killer with a much bigger agenda. The last scenes do more than end a story. They seed a franchise, reveal a hidden identity, and place dangerous new targets on a deadly list.
A quick snapshot of the story

On the surface level, Dhurandhar follows the brutal world of Lyari, Pakistan, and the up and down of crime gangster Rehman Dakait. Ranveer Singh stars as Hamza a man who earns the trust of Rehman before carrying out a well-planned murder against him. That mission completes the film’s first phase, called Operation Dhurandhar, and it is presented in chapters across a long runtime so the makers can unfold layers slowly and deliberately.
The big twist: Hamza is not who you think

The film’s closing revelation reframes everything. Hamza is not simply a local gangster. We get to know about his real name Jaskirat through flashbacks. The Indian intelligence recruited him and inserted him into the depths of the terror networks in Pakistan to collect intelligence and kill dangerous leaders. A scene set in 2002 reveals how Ajay Sanyal, the Indian intelligence officer played by R. Madhavan, laid out the mission. The film clarifies that such suicide style mission operatives are usually recruited among those who are on the death row or individuals with nothing left to lose and this is what happens to Jaskirat to become Hamza.
The ending and its emotional core

Once Rehman is removed with the assistance of SP Chaudhary Aslam, played by Sanjay Dutt and local politics Jameel Jamali, played by Rakesh Bedi, the plot becomes introspective. Hamza begins to crack. He experiences hallucinations of the very enemy he killed. The image of Rehman appears to him on a blood soaked stretcher and haunts him. In a quieter, human moment Hamza collapses at home in the arms of Yaalina, played by Sara Arjun, begging for food and showing a fragile, broken side to a man who had been all action until then.
The diary that changes everything
The real sting of the finale is not only Hamza’s breakdown. In the night after Rehman is crossed off the list, Hamza opens a secret diary that was given to him by another operative. In the diary, the names are written using the invisible ink. Rehman’s name is crossed out, but many others remain.Among the prominent names that are mentioned is that of Major Iqbal of ISI, which is portrayed by Arjun Rampal. The final title card confirms the story continues with the single word Revenge and a clear message to audiences: this was just the first phase.
Why the ending matters

That final sequence does three things at once. First, it recasts Ranveer Singh’s character from a damaged protagonist into a highly trained and patient operative who plays a long game. Second, it gives his actions an emotional backdrop by demonstrating the individual cost of undercover work in the form of hallucinations and collapse. Third, it establishes a franchise structure in which every instalment is able to deal with a new antagonist in the diary, increasing the scope of a single crime lord to several high value targets.
