Through these moving videos, the makers aim to salute not just the soldiers who serve on the frontlines, but also the families who silently carry the weight of separation, fear, and hope. Posted on social media, the videos feature some of the most intimate stories one can have, which is the emotional truth of the military life, and which provides the central theme of the film, which is the theme of courage and sacrifice, with a new layer.
Real Stories That Reflect the True Cost of Service
The first video features Mrs. Ganvi Chadha, daughter of Col. Mahip Singh Chadha of the 3rd Gurkhas, who served during the 1965 and 1971 wars. She speaks about growing up in an era when communication was extremely limited. Families had to reserve phone calls using local exchanges and observed rigid procedures, and even a few words were valuable. She remembers how field postings placed emotional distance and how ordinary events, such as enjoying a favourite meal on short vacations, turned out to be life long memories.
Another touching account comes from Mrs. Savinder Manchanda, wife of Lt. Col. Jagdeep Manchanda (Retd) of the 16 Bihar Regiment. She tells about one of the tense times when her husband was in a sensitive area in Arunachal Pradesh. Inaccessibility to phones became a part and parcel of life. She recounts the comfort and reassurances of having a few, brief conversations at those anxious moments.
The third video features Lt. Col. Jagdeep Manchanda (Retd) himself, who served in the Indian Army from 1972 to 2003. Looking back on his 32 years of his life, he describes it as the most defining one. He also tells stories about his involvement in key missions including those that involved the Galwan Valley and thanks Indian Army to the core of his values and perspectives.
