Mumbai: Fifteen years after it first danced its way into the hearts of audiences, Band Baaja Baaraat is set to return to cinemas. PVR INOX, in association with Yash Raj Films, has announced the theatrical re release of the much loved romantic comedy on January 16, 2026. The movie has gained cult status over the years due to its characters who people can relate to, the energy it generates, and its music which is still played in weddings around the nations.
Directed by Maneesh Sharma, Band Baaja Baaraat marked the debut of Ranveer Singh and starred Anushka Sharma in a story that blended ambition, friendship, love, and heartbreak within the colourful chaos of Delhi weddings. The movie has gained cult status over the years due to its characters who people can relate to, the energy it generates, and its music which is still played in weddings around the nations.
A Film That Changed the Modern Bollywood Love Story
Set in the bustling wedding business of Delhi, Band Baaja Baaraat stood apart by grounding its romance in everyday reality. Rather than fateful fate or love at first sight, the movie depicted the way relationships can be built through alliance, equality, rivalry, and mutual aspirations. It depicted a young, entrepreneurial India that was ambitious, middle-class and risk-taker.
The film also redefined how weddings were shown on screen. Rather than using them as glossy backdrops, it treated them as living social spaces filled with pressure, joy, chaos, and commerce. With its well-grounded location, natural dialogue and imperfect but charming characters, the movie silently changed the rules of the contemporary Bollywood rom coms and spawned a new generation of realistic films.
Makers and PVR INOX Celebrate Its Timeless Appeal
Speaking about the re release, Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist at PVR INOX, said the film continues to remain fresh and relatable even today. She described how Band Baaja Baaraat is a film that embraces friendship, love, ambition, and life in its purest and wholesome way and is therefore intergenerational. She says returning the film to theatres is one way of celebrating the art of storytelling that does not wear out its welcome and letting younger audiences experience its magic on the big screen.
Director Maneesh Sharma also reflected on the journey of the film and its enduring connection with viewers. He revealed that the story was inspired by a magazine article about young Indian entrepreneurs who took risks despite limited resources. That concept later evolved into a movie that is based on ambition, love, and friendship based on common streets and lived experiences. Sharma said that she was thrilled that audiences would be able to revisit a film that was not only made with a lot of heart but also a film that means something to people of various ages and at various life stages.
A Nostalgic Treat for Old Fans and a Discovery for New Ones
The re release of Band Baaja Baaraat is part of PVR INOX’s ongoing initiative to honour landmark films and exceptional talent from India and around the world. By bringing iconic titles back to cinemas, the multiplex chain aims to revive the joy of big screen storytelling while giving a new generation the chance to experience classics the way they were meant to be seen.
For fans who grew up with the film, the re release offers a nostalgic trip back to Bittoo and Shruti’s journey. To younger viewers, it is an opportunity to watch the movie, which gave Ranveer Singh his first step in the film industry and meant a new generation of the Bollywood romance.
