Mumbai: Popular Punjabi and Bollywood singer B Praak has reportedly received a serious death threat along with an extortion demand of Rs 10 crore, sending shockwaves across the music industry. A threat was made by a caller who allegedly was linked to Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which led the police to take immediate action as mentioned in a report by IANS.
It has already been reported to the Mohali police where the police have increased security around the singer and after that, have commenced a detailed investigation to establish the origin of the threat.
How the Threat Was Made
As per the complaint filed with the Senior Superintendent of Police in Mohali, the threatening calls were not made directly to B Praak but to his close associate and fellow singer Dilnoor. The initial approach was made on January 5, when Dilnoor got two missed calls of an international number which he did not attend.
On January 6, Dilnoor received another call from a different foreign number. Upon responding, he was said to have become suspicious of the conversation and cut off the call. A voice message was later sent on the same overseas number.
In the audio message, the caller identified himself as Arju Bishnoi and demanded Rs 10 crore within one week. The message warned that the demand should be passed on to B Praak and included threats of severe harm if the money was not paid. The caller was quoted saying that, regardless of whether B Praak attempted to move out of the country, any individual, linked to him, could be targeted.
The audio message has been submitted to the police as evidence.
Police Action and Security Measures
Following the complaint, Mohali police have initiated an investigation to trace the origin of the calls and verify the identity of the person behind them. Authorities are also making efforts to establish whether the threat was really by an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang or someone abusing the name of the gang.
Police sources have confirmed that security arrangements for B Praak are currently being reviewed. Authorities have not shared further details to avoid affecting the ongoing probe.
Law enforcement agencies have been concerned with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in the past due to its involvement in triggering high profile extortion and threat cases involving celebrities.
