Mumbai: After months of speculation, the much awaited spy thriller Alpha starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh finally has a confirmed release date. On Monday, the makers declared that the movie will enter the theatres on July 10, 2026, and it will be the next major release in the blockbuster YRF Spy Universe. Yash Raj Films announced it on Instagram and a new poster is shown that immediately attracted the attention of the fans online.
The poster that has just been released provides a preview of Alia Bhatt in a dramatic avatar. Her face is bruised and cut and there is a hint of gritty action which the film promises. The viewer is allowed to see only a portion of her face and one eye, which makes it mysterious and intriguing. The design is done in Greek letter Alpha with metallic gold color on a dark background. Beneath the title, the names of Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol appear, while the bottom clearly reads “10.07.26 Only in Cinemas.”
A female led action story in the spy universe
Directed by Shiv Rawail, who previously helmed the acclaimed series The Railway Men, the film is produced by Aditya Chopra. This is the first time that Alia Bhatt is going to work with Yash Raj Films and the project is being positioned as the first major female action film in the spy franchise in India. There will be some hardcore action scenes in which Alia and Sharvari go against Bobby Deol in what is being termed as a vicious battle.
Sources earlier revealed that Alia has undergone months of physical training to prepare for the demanding role. A video shared by her trainer recently showed her pushing her strength and endurance levels as she prepared for heavy action scenes in the film.
A release that has shifted multiple times
The journey to the big screen has not been straightforward for Alpha. The film was first scheduled to release on December 25, 2025, with the makers announcing it as a Christmas entertainer. Later, the release was moved to April 17, 2026, as the team required more time to complete the film’s VFX work. With the new announcement, the film is now officially set to arrive in cinemas on July 10, 2026.
Fans quickly reacted to the announcement on social media. Comments flooded the post with excitement. Some users wrote “Finally it’s coming,” while others said they had been waiting for the film for a long time. Many also praised the poster’s sleek design and intense look.
Expanding the blockbuster YRF Spy Universe
The YRF Spy Universe started in 2012 with Ek Tha Tiger, which features Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. It was a huge hit and created an effective action franchise with sequels Tiger Zinda Hai and Tiger 3. War, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, was followed by Pathaan which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. The latest one was the War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan in addition to Jr. NTR and Kiara Advani.
As the seventh instalment in the series, the movie will have a new dynamic with two women in the middle of the high stakes spy-story. It has already increased the expectations with the intense first glimpse and the long wait before the launch and thus Alpha is one of the most-awaited Hindi movies of 2026 along with another project that is Ramayana.
