Mumbai: Few actors in Hindi cinema can deliver quiet menace and psychological depth quite like Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Having been known to be incredibly intense onscreen and both having a complex moral character, both stars are currently being considered to play the role of the main antagonist in Tumbbad 2.
According to a report by Mid-Day, the makers are actively discussing their names as they look to craft a villain who can add greater depth and psychological complexity to the sequel. It is reported that the choice is significant because the antagonist will be at the center of developing the story and building the dark and mythic world of Tumbbad.
A Villain to Match the Dark World of Tumbbad
Industry sources suggest that the team is not looking for a conventional negative character. Instead, the focus is on creating a layered and morally ambiguous figure who can hold his ground against Sohum Shah’s intense and brooding presence.
A source quoted in the report said that a powerful antagonist is key to the storytelling of Tumbbad 2. Both Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are under consideration due to their track record of playing unpredictable, grey-shaded roles. Their acting in movies such as Chhaava and Dhurandhar on behalf of Khanna as well as the long list of multi-layered characters, that Siddiqui has played, makes him and her very strong candidates to take the part that requires psychological insight and emotional richness.
The makers reportedly want a character who does not just oppose the protagonist, but also deepens the moral conflicts and mythological layers that define the Tumbbad universe.
Tumbbad 2 Gears Up as a Big-Scale Sequel
The speculation comes at a time when Tumbbad 2 is gaining serious momentum. The sequel has officially collaborated with Pen Studios under the leadership of Jayantilal Gada, making the movie a massive cinematic project.
Originally released in 2018, Tumbbad gradually grew from a sleeper hit into a cult classic, earning global appreciation for its atmospheric storytelling, haunting visuals, and deep-rooted themes of greed and folklore. Its 2024 re-release further expanded its fan base, introducing the film to a whole new generation of viewers.
With the sequel now in active development and discussions underway for a formidable villain, excitement around Tumbbad 2 continues to build. Although this is still yet to be announced, there is a strong speculation among fans that they may see either Akshaye Khanna or Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a dark antagonist role.
