Mumbai: Akshaye Khanna is enjoying a massive wave of appreciation following the success of Dhurandhar. His portrayal of Pakistani gangster Rehman Dakait left a strong impact on audiences, with many viewers feeling that his performance stood out even in a film led by Ranveer Singh. However, currently, according to the latest reports, fans might get a chance to see more of Akshaye character in the next sequel.

According to a Filmfare report, the makers of Dhurandhar 2 have already locked the broad storyline and are currently fine tuning the script. Sources close to the development revealed that Akshaye Khanna is set to return for a brief yet important portion of the sequel. The actor will resume shooting in a one week session aimed at developing the back story of Rehman Dakait and deepening his character in the following chapter.

Rehman Dakait’s Impact and Viral Moments

In Dhurandhar, Akshaye Khanna played Rehman Dakait, a feared gangster whose presence dominated the screen despite limited screen time. One of the most talked about moments from the film was his impromptu dance to Flipperachi’s Fa9La, which quickly went viral on social media. The sequence was recreated by fans and content creators in huge numbers, making it one of the most unforeseen moments in the movie.

Even though Rehman Dakait is killed by Ranveer Singh’s character Hamza in the first part, fans have continued to express their hope that Akshaye would return in some form in the sequel. The actor, on the other hand, has remained in his typical low profile, and has not publicly responded to the new attention.

Dhurandhar’s Box Office Run and What Lies Ahead

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar also stars R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. The spy action thriller became the four highest grossing Indian film in the world as it grossed a whopping ₹1,296 crore. It overtook such major blockbusters as RRR, KGF Chapter 2, Pathaan, and Jawan in the process.

The sequel will explore the backstory of Hamza and focus on the power shift in Lyari following Rehman Dakait’s death. In the closing credit scene of the original movie, a bloody battle between Ranveer Singh and Arjun Rampal was also foreshadowed, and this was the sign of a high stakes follow-up.

Dhurandhar 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on March 19 and will face a box office clash with Yash’s Toxic A Fairytale for Grown Ups, which stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, and Huma Qureshi. There has been an increase in expectations of the sequel given that Akshaye Khanna is reportedly back.
