Mumbai: The madness of the Golmaal universe is officially returning. On the birthday of filmmaker Rohit Shetty, the team behind the iconic comedy franchise announced the fifth instalment of the series, and this time the chaos will be even bigger. The announcement revealed that Akshay Kumar is joining the beloved gang in Golmaal 5, sending fans into a frenzy.
The franchise regulars like Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu and Tusshar Kapoor will also be rejoining the film. The comeback of Sharman Joshi was also confirmed in the announcement video where the cast celebrated the comeback of the series.
Akshay Kumar’s surprise entry steals the show
Akshay Kumar shared the announcement video on Instagram and gave fans a first look at his character. In the clip, the Golmaal gang can be seen celebrating Sharman Joshi’s return before the biggest surprise arrives. Akshay enters the frame with a bald look, wearing a black kurta pyjama and dark sunglasses.
He greets Ajay Devgn with multiple hugs and joins the team, hinting at the chaotic ride ahead.
Sharing the video, Akshay wrote, “Happy Birthday @itsrohitshetty. On your birthday, the madness just got bigger and louder. Excited to be joining this crazy family of Golmaal 5. Let the chaos begin.”
Fans quickly flooded the comment section with excitement. One wrote, “Akshay Ajay Rohit blockbuster loading.” Another fan commented, “Golmaal 5 blockbuster loading. Only Akshay Kumar.” Popular creator Ashish Chanchlani also reacted to the announcement and wrote, “Damn this looks so fun. Let’s go.”
What to expect from Golmaal 5
Golmaal franchise started with Golmaal: Fun Unlimited in 2006 and soon it became one of the most popular comedy series in Bollywood. The movies are also characterized by their slapstick comedy, bizarre characters and plots. The series was followed by Golmaal Returns in 2008, Golmaal 3 in 2010 and Golmaal Again in 2017, also enjoying strong box office performance and loyal fan base.
According to reports cited by Sacnilk, the story of Golmaal 5 may revolve around a hidden treasure and a frantic hunt to find it. The Golmaal gang reportedly gets caught in a chaotic search for the mysterious treasure, leading to a series of hilarious misadventures.
Akshay Kumar’s addition is expected to bring a fresh twist to the film. The actor reportedly has allotted 18 days from his busy schedule to shoot for the project while he is also preparing for his horror comedy Bhooth Bangla.
Interestingly, Golmaal 5 is the first film in which Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn will feature together in a complete comedy movie. The two actors had collaborated in films such as Simmba, Sooryavanshi, Khakee, Insan and Suhaag though not in a complete-fledged comedy set up.
Recently they have also worked with Rohit Shetty on Singham Again that was released in 2024 and the movie starred a star studded cast, including Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor.
As the original gang comes back, Sharman Joshi comes back and Akshay Kumar goes bang, Golmaal 5 will surely bring the insanity of the franchise to a new level. Viewers are anxiously anticipating the comedy insanity to be shown on the silver screen.
