Mumbai: On Monday a chain collision of a car in the security entourage of Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar caused panic in the Juhu area of Mumbai following a late night road accident. The accident took place near Mukteshwar Road, close to Silver Beach Café, and left one person seriously injured.
Police officials say the accident happened between two cars and an autorickshaw. The autorickshaw was allegedly overturned by a speeding Mercedes, striking the rear which led to its crash with a car that was part of the security convoy of Akshay Kumar. Those videos taken at the spot showed the escort vehicle rolled on its side, and the autorickshaw was in a shambles.
Akshay Kumar not in the vehicle
Police confirmed that Akshay Kumar was not present in the escort car that was hit. The actor was travelling in a separate vehicle with his wife Twinkle Khanna after returning to Mumbai from an overseas trip. Their car was not involved in the collision.
It is reported that Akshay and Twinkle were heading home after celebrating their 25 th wedding anniversary abroad. Both of them escaped without any injuries.
An eyewitness told that the accident looked frightening, but it was a relief that those involved survived. The man in the autorickshaw was critically wounded and taken to hospital and he is still undergoing treatment.
Akshay steps out to help
Residents at the spot said that Akshay Kumar stepped out of his SUV immediately after the accident to help the injured autorickshaw driver and a passenger. Both were briefly trapped under the overturned escort vehicle after it was hit by the Mercedes.
It was also reported by sources that spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was in the vicinity when attending an occasion. This resulted into high numbers of bystanders and media around the scene of the accident contributing to the confusion. Police have launched an investigation and are probing the exact cause of the crash. So far, no official statement has been issued by Akshay Kumar or his team.
Anniversary moments before the incident
Just before the accident, Twinkle Khanna had shared a warm post celebrating 25 years of marriage with Akshay Kumar. She shared a video of the two paragliding and talked about how the couple always motivates one another to fly, literally. The post trended immediately and was adored by followers on social media.
The shocking accident that followed left many fans concerned, but the news of Akshay and Twinkle being safe has brought relief. Now the focus is on the injured autorickshaw driver as the investigation goes on and many have hopes of him recovering soon.
